A trip to the National Zoo....

After not being to the National Zoo for quite a while, I finally took my youngest daughter there for a treat. It cost RM20 for per adult and RM6 for a child to enter the zoo.

(Zoo Negara, or National Zoo is located in Hulu Kelang, about 13km from Kuala Lumpur, and it is the first National Zoo in Malaysia, being opened in 1963. Operated by the Malaysian Zoological Society, Zoo Negara houses a collection of a wide range of animals from all over the world. Besides showcasing the animals, it emphasises on four main areas – which are the Conservation, Education, Research and Recreation, making it a valuable resource for all visitors.

Zoo Negara takes in more than 5,000 animals from over 400 species including birds, fish, mammals and reptiles.
It is hugely popular during the weekends and public holidays. A treat for the visitors - there are also performances by orang utans and sea lions as well.

Attractions at Zoo Negara :

1. Tunku Abdul Rahman Aquarium - the first ecological-based freshwater aquarium in the country highlighting the Malaysian River and Wetlands.
2. Sea Lions, macaques and macaws – making part of the Multi-Animal Show. (Show time : Daily at 11.00am & 3pm, with 3.30pm on Fridays)
3. Free train rides and guided tours on weekends.
4. The latest attraction at the Reptile Park - Amphibian World - open for public viewing, housing frogs and toads of Malaysia.
5. Mini Bee Museum - located at the heart of Zoo Negara, where you can learn about the many types of bees in the country.
6. Birds Photo Corner at the Bird Aviary - open on weekends, is the best place to take souvenir photos of you and your family along with their colourful macaws and cockatoos.
7. Multi-Animal Photo Corner, located by the zoo's main entrance, is also the place to be. Come and have your shot taken with snakes, miniature horses and birds!

Not only that, the spacious picnic grounds around the boating lake at Zoo Negara are excellent for family recreation. Other facilities available within the 25ha ground are restaurants and mini-train rides.

Zoo Negara opens daily from 9am - 5pm. )

Ok, that is the write up by other websites for those of you who would like to visit the zoo, and well, you can see some pretty nice animals around... but if you ask me for my two cents worth, hmm.. I must admit I am disappointed by a lot of things ,... example... the shops which sell cheap quality stuff (stuff you can get in the night market , some shop or such) but for a higher price instead of really decent quality Zoo Negara souvenirs, like postcards, t shirts, etc...
The beautiful lake is not so beautiful and seems murky. The children's play land is quite sad (if one wants to compare with the Singapore Zoo , or maybe just even the Malacca Zoo, KL Butterfly Park or KL Bird Park)... but well, there are plenty of room for improvement and hopefully they will be much better in the future because there are expansions and such going on, as observed. Hoping for the best...
