Selamat Datang Brazil 2014, a Malaysia-Brasil Cross Culture Event

An annual cross-‐culture event and capoeira celebration

Yours truly was invited by fellow blogger on behalf of Avenue K to attend the Selamat Datang Brasil 2014, Malaysia - Brasil Cross Culture Event . It was held at the Samba Brazilian Steakhouse on the 3rd Floor of Avenue K, Jalan Ampang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur

The outlet was big and spacious. Two huge bull  statues are situated  at the entrance, greeting diners and the interior decoration is pretty much Mediterranean style, modern  yet, homely

Selamat Datang Brasil 2014”is cross cultural event celebrating Brazilian and Malaysian cultures, targeted to be an annual event. Organized by Brasil em Festa Performance Company, this colourful affair will be held for the 1st time in Malaysia, after being previously held in various other countries in the South East Asian region.

Our Capoeira School,  based in Mont Kiara and the Bangsar Sports complex, is a school that teaches Capoeira, the culturally rich Brazilian martial art, along with other Brazilian cultural expressions
and dance such as Samba, Brazilian Afro, Maculelê, Puxada de Rede and more.

The Brasil em Festa Performance Company also performs the Samba, Capoeira, Forró, and Brazilia-‐Afro Dance performances for big events around South East Asia.

“Selamat Datang Brasil 2014” will be held from the 24th to 26th of October 2014 at Avenue K.

It will be a three day event packed with high energy and fun with Brazilian and Malaysian themed
workshops, performances, games and the celebration of the students’ year long training.

Some highlights of the event will include Samba, Afro Dance, Silat, Bhangra and Capoeira workshops. A Capoeira graduation ceremony called Batizado will also be a highlight of ‘Selamat Datang Brasil 2014’ followed by Brazilian Cultural performances such as Maculelê and Frevo Dance
as well as Malaysian Fusion Dance, Silat performances and an unforgetable Brazilian party night/

This event is open for public viewing as well as participation. Participants do not need to have
any basic knowledge or skill to participate in any of the workshops. Some require  a fee and some are free but all are open to everyone!

Participants can expect to learn from the best as Master teachers, Professors and Brazilian and Malaysian artists will be flown in from all over the world to teach these workshops as well as present
the graduates with their new belts (cordas) in the Batizado ceremony.
The teachers and masters are all based in various countries including Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and more. The event is expecting a high level of international and local participation.

The event also practices an ECO FRIENDLY policy by motivating students to produce their  performance props using recycled materials such as plastic water bottles and used magazines.

The children’s workshops will have an eco-‐friendly theme and teach them about recycling, the importance of  reusing and reducing waste. Where possible, items that will be used for the workshops
will be reused from other activities, playing its part to minimize waste.

There will also be exciting games and prizes to be won! “Selamat Datang Brasil 2014” is made possible with the support of Avenue K as the venue sponsor and Arte é Vida Fitness Studio. The event is also supported by the Embassy of Brazil in Kuala Lumpur.

This event will be an opportunity for all to come and learn from different masters and teachers, enrich
their cultural knowledge as well as enjoy the performances and activities.

Through this event, we hope to inspire people to make new connections and friends, and to be part of
the “Capoeira community” in Malaysia and Capoeira communities all around the world, spreading this beautiful culture.

We were invited to partake in a simple but quite lavish buffet spread, which included, roast chicken, beef lasagne, shrimp in yuca sauce and so on.

The food was rich in taste and definitely yummy. I loved the food even though it was actually my first time trying out Brazilian cuisine.

My selection of dishes...
Meats are succulent and perfectly cooked. The chicken is absolutely delicious. The meats are flavorful and you can taste them are perfectly cooked and they are very delicious.
