Sunway Velocity Hotel brings "Raya Cheer" to underprivileged families in Wangsa Maju

Most Malaysians love celebrating various festivities throughout the year.. It is a blessing as a multicultural country that we all get to celebrate Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, Deepavali or Christmas...

It is when Malaysians get to get together as one and visit each other to wish each other well and enjoy the merriment...

Well, all those except for the struggling families... Living tucked in some corners of our developing cities, there are people who struggle to put food on the table on a daily basis and for these people who live from hand to mouth, festive seasons may not be happy occasions...

With the hope of being able to spread some cheer to underserved communities, especially families in the B40 group, Sunway celebrates #sunwayforgood araya Cheer to reach some 11,520 beneficiaries  nationwide..

This month long event kicked off in Penang on 13th May and will continue right up to the 22nd June includes bubur lambuk distribution, installation of rice automated teller machines (ATM), iftar barakah session, packed food distribution to the homeless and spreading some Raya Cheer (shopping for baju Raya and Buka Puasa) with B40 families spread across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, Penang and Johor, where Sunway Group has built, served and remains as part of the communities...

Yours truly was there to see the Sunway Velocity Hotel team distribute Bubur Lambuk prepared by the chef and staff from hotel as well as the mosque at the Masjid Abu Ubaidah Al-Jarrah in Wangsa Maju and distributed to the families and people there...

A total of 1,200 packets of bubur lambuk were distributed here...

They even had a rice ATM machine installed there, one of 8 machines and about 200kg of rice in the machine...

The rice ATM has two functions - which is to give out rice in desired quantity and it also has a donation compartment to receive cash funds from the public.. The funds will of course be used to buy more rice for the needy or the machine...

Each machine contains 200kg of rice and runs on RFID card system. Identified beneficiaries are given this card and they can use the card to collect 2kg of rice every first and third Fridays of the month....

Other places which has been installed with a rice ATM are:-

1. Masjid Daerah Seberang Perai Tengah
2. Masjid Ulu Kenas, Kuala Kangsar
3. Masjid India, Johor Bharu
4. Masjid Al-Husna, Bandar Sunway
5. Masjid Abu Ubaidah Al-Jarrah, Wangsa Maju
6. Markas MPKK, Permatang Pauh
7. Masjid in Chenderiang, Perak
8. Masjid in Johor
