Be An Ocean Hero at IPC Shopping Centre’s Ocean Playground

IPC Shopping Centre invites parents and their children to a meaningful, exciting and an educative school holiday adventure with its larger-than-life intricate balloon sculptures themed ‘Ocean Heroes to the Rescue’. This is the largest and first sustainable balloon installation in Malaysia where adult shoppers and young visitors can take a deep dive into endangered marine species, ocean - conservation, and sustainability education.

From now until 5 th March 2023, parents can bring their children to the centre’s Concourse to enjoy and immerse themselves in an Ocean Playground that is made up of 85,000 pieces of biodegradable balloons.

The Ocean Playground consist of beautifully sculptured underwater landscape while featuring five most endangered marine life - Hammerhead Shark (longest balloon animal at 5m long), Orca Whale (tallest balloon animal at 4m high), Hawksbill Sea Turtle, Dugong and Giant Manta Ray.

This magnificent installation uses 100% biodegradable Qualatex balloons which will be properly disposed at the end to ensure it does not end up in a landfill or the ocean. This is in line with the Centre’s sustainability business core.

IPC Shopping Centre has partnered with 20 world-renowned balloon sculpture artists from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and Malaysia to bring this extravagant installation to life. The team was led by Malaysian Balloon Master, Joseph Ho, and Taiwan’s Godfather of Balloons, Ho Kun Leong, who have worked together on multiple occasions, one being their greatest achievement when bagging Gold at the 5 th World Balloon Convention in San Diego, California on 2018.

Ms Karyn Lim, General Manager of IPC Shopping Centre, said, “Malaysia is one of the top plastic ocean polluters and it is not something to be proud of. We need immediate action collectively to take better care of our ocean and marine life. Unlike other destinations, this Ocean Playground is our way of raising awareness on the importance of preserving our ocean for the livelihoods of marine lives and with hopes of cultivating our next generation Ocean Heroes. At IPC, we strive to include green efforts into our everyday business, and we are pleased to be partnering with both balloon masters again for the 5 th time on this creative and sustainable installation.

This has been also the first sustainable biodegradable balloon installation in Malaysia, and IPC hopes to continue setting the benchmark and being the role model to inspire and encourage more people to embrace an environmental mindset.”

Joseph Ho, Malaysian Balloon Master said “I am excited to be working with IPC again as this marks the 5 th year we’ve partnered together. The pandemic affected all large-scale balloon exhibitions, so I am thrilled to be part of the first and only sustainable balloon installation in Malaysia. I hope more shopping centres in Malaysia will follow suit and be more sustainable in-malls so that together we can create a greater impact on our people and planet together.”

Over two weekends, IPC Shopping Centre will also be hosting educative on-ground activities and complimentary sustainability-driven workshops at Atrium, Level G for children aged 12 years old and below on a first come-first serve basis (priority is given to Små Club members). Music 2023 - Everything But The Girl - Nothing Left To Lose

Everything But The Girl confirmed details of Fuse, their first new studio album in over 24 years, which will be out on 21st April.

The first single - and opening cut from the 10-track album - is Nothing Left To Lose, accompanied by a video from director Charlie Di Placido (Kojey Radical, Jungle). Written and produced by Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn over the spring-summer of 2021, Fuse is a modern take on the lustrous electronic soul the band first pioneered in the mid-90s.

Thorn's affecting and richly-textured voice is once again up front in Watt's glimmering landscape of sub-bass, sharp beats, half-lit synths and empty space, and as before, the result is the sound of a band comfortable with being both sonically contemporary, yet agelessly themselves.

Speaking about the band’s re-emergence and new album, Tracey says: ‘Ironically the finished sound of the new album was the last thing on our mind when we started in March 2021. Of course, we were aware of the pressures of such a long-awaited comeback, so we tried to begin instead in a spirit of open-minded playfulness, uncertain of the direction, receptive to invention'.

The pair recorded in secret at home and in a small riverside studio outside Bath with friend and engineer Bruno Ellingham. For the first two months, the artist name on the album files was simply TREN (Tracey and Ben), and early takes focussed on ambient sound montages and improvised spectral piano loops recorded by Ben on his iPhone at home during his enforced pandemic isolation - ideas which later blossomed into atmospheric tracks such as When You Mess Up and Interior Space.

Yet, as confidence grew, so did the pulse and rhythm of the album, culminating in the writing and programming of later songs, such as the new single Nothing Left To Lose and Caution To The Wind.

Shot through with alternating hope, desperation and vivid flashbacks, the album's lyrics - sometimes allusive, sometimes richly detailed, capture what it's like to start again.

Ben explains: ‘It was exciting. A natural dynamism developed. We spoke in short-hand, and little looks, and co-wrote instinctively. It became more than the sum of our two selves. It just became Everything But The Girl on its own’.

The duo's renewed studio partnership also led to the new album title. ‘After so much time apart professionally, there was both a friction and a natural spark in the studio when we began’, says Tracey. ‘However much we underplayed it at the start, it was like a fuse had been lit. And it ended in a kind of coalescence, an emotional fusion. It felt very real and alive’.

Everything But The Girl broke through on the UK indie scene in 1982 with a stark jazz-folk cover of Cole Porter's Night and Day. They then released a string of UK gold albums throughout the 80s, experimenting with jazz, guitar pop, orchestral wall-of-sound and drum-machine soul.

After Watt's near-death experience from a rare auto-immune condition in 1992, the pair returned unbowed with the million-selling ardent folktronica of Amplified Heart in 1994.

It includes their biggest hit, Missing, after New York DJ-producer Todd Terry’s remix unexpectedly made the leap from heavy club play to global radio success (Number 2 US Hot 100; Number 3 UK Top 40). The sparkling Walking Wounded - emotional songs brimming with ideas from the mid 90s electronic scene - followed in 1996 (Number 4 UK Album Chart).

Spawning four UK Top 40 hits, the record became the band’s first platinum selling album. After their final show at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2000, the pair chose to quit Everything But The Girl on a high.

The intervening years have of course been anything but empty. From 2007 Tracey released four solo albums, a movie soundtrack for Carol Morley's The Falling, four non-fiction books and wrote extensively for The New Statesman. Ben became an international DJ and remixer, and ran his electronic label Buzzin' Fly for ten years before returning to his singer-songwriter roots with a trilogy of solo albums from 2014-2020.

Everything But The Girl’s new album Fuse will be released on 21st April on Buzzin' Fly Records through Virgin Music Group, except North America, where it is released on Buzzin' Fly Records through Verve. So watch out for it!!!

Malaysian female quartet DOLLA continues to reign as the top local girl group to date. Ever since making their debut during the height of the pandemic, these talented girls have achieved countless milestones in carving their brand.

Recently stealing attention with local powerhouse Naim Daniel through their ballad duet called ‘Mungkin Ini Adalah Lagu Yang Paling Sedih Pernah Aku Buat’, the four ladies re-emerge with another track that is set to make waves.

On January 28 this year, DOLLA livened up the Seen Festival in Kuala Lumpur 2023 with international K-Pop sensational stars namely NCT Dream, WayV, KARD and ALICE.

"We feel very proud to be lined up with great entertainers from South Korea. Being able to share a stage with those big names is a dream that we have longed for since getting into the music industry.

"This opportunity means a lot to us personally as artists who are still trying to establish a name. It's the biggest recognition for our career especially because it's DOLLA's ambition to penetrate the international market again," they said.

Christened LOOK AT THIS, the single which was originally written in English by a Swedish producer has been translated into Malay, specifically with DOLLA fans in mind.

According to one of DOLLA’s members Tabby, the song sings of self-confidence.

“It speaks of self-confidence and not caring about what other people think. The catchy number tells of someone who is confident about being attractive and comfortable in their own skin. In fact, there is a line which sings “kau pandang di sini mata memerhati, (you are looking here, eyes are watching) but I ain't even worried bout that,” says Tabby.

The song writing process took a bit of time since the original version was conjured in English.

“It took us a while as we had to find the suitable words in Malay to fit this kind of melody. We needed the words to live up to the amazing original lyrics which were written in English.

We worked for months with our team along with Cikgu Shafi, and SYA to complete and make the lyrics perfect. For the rap bit, we were assisted by Yonnyboii and ASYRAF NASIR to make the track sound better. Thanks to everyone’s help, the end-product became a success. We are very satisfied with the song and feel that all our hard work has been worthwhile,” she added.

According to Syasya of DOLLA, the song shows a different side of the group.

“The vibe is a tad different from our past hits. In fact, the dance moves lean more towards hiphop. But thanks to the help of Ezra Tham and team from UNC Dance Studio, they managed to guide us through.

As for the music video, we collaborated with Ghazi who took time to listen to our ideas for some difference. We are thankful because it was really easy to work with everyone,” said Syasya.

However, Sabronzo claimed there were some challenges while shooting the music video.

“The first challenge was completing the whole video in one day due to bad weather. The second problem was saving all our energy and staying awake for 28 hours to complete it! Initially we planned the shoot to take up two days but due to the bad weather state, we had to do what we can,” said Sabronzo.

The girls of DOLLA hope that the song will be well-received by everyone including the international market. It truly is something different from what they have shared before.

Yours truly had the chance to listen to it at the #LATParty held at Deep Blue at the FACE Suites and it was an amazing song !!!definitely loving it!!!!

The single LOOK AT THIS can be stream on all digital platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, KKBOX, Deezer and YouTube Music from February 17 at 12 midnight, while the music video can be viewed on the DOLLA YouTube site on February 17 at 9 PM
