Malaysian Humanitarian Foundation collaborates with Teach for Malaysia to empower underprivileged students with leadership skills

Award-winning non-profit organisation, Malaysian Humanitarian Foundation (“MHF”) is working closely with Malaysia’s leading educational non-profit organisation, Teach for Malaysia (“TFM”) in identifying students from B40 households to offer scholarships to attend SuperCamp.

For the December edition which ran from 18 to 22 December 2023 at Paradise Valley Broga Resort, Semenyih, Selangor, seven (7) students from several schools within Klang Valley were shortlisted by TFM to attend SuperCamp.
“We work on a system to extend opportunities like this to students from the underserved communities. Not having the resources to attend programmes like this should not hinder you from unlocking your full potential and achieving greatness in the future. We hope that from 2024 onwards, we can extend the scholarships to at least 50 students annually,” Henry Teh Kok Kheng, Executive Director of MHF (郑国庆) says.
Empowering the future leaders of Malaysia
Vassenthen A/L Devendren, 16, was filled with excitement to be selected for SuperCamp. The SMK (L) Methodist Sentul student candidly shares that his self-esteem took a hit during the transition from a Tamil school to a national school after his UPSR, which left him dissatisfied with the result. He also feels less confident due to his larger physical build.

“I was disappointed to receive my UPSR result and decided to make a change. I started following a strict regime where I only allowed minimal time to rest and spend time with my family. Being the eldest in my family also means that I have the big brother role to play,” he says. He also continues to study Tamil subjects to honour his Indian heritage as he aspires to excel in his mother tongue, while improving his proficiency in English and Bahasa Melayu.
His mother, Mogana Sunthari A/P Govindan, 41 is also surprised to see how much time Vassenthen spends in his room studying. “Everyday, after school he retreats to his room to study. Sometimes, he only texts or calls me on the phone when he wants to eat. I can see that he is driven to be successful in the future, so I’ll continue to support him,” she says. “Interestingly, though, he doesn't aspire to become a doctor! He mentioned that the COVID-19 experience has truly scared him!”
Another scholar from SMK Seksyen 27, Shah Alam, Maizatulakma Lisa Aqilah Abdullah, is a big fan of Korean culture, particularly the food and fashion. Despite her passion for entertainment, she strongly believes that her peers should set their priorities right from such a young age.

“I know a lot of students my age want to be content creators and influencers, but I honestly hope to be a teacher one day. So, I’ll work hard towards this goal, acknowledging that I can be a bit lazy at times. However, after attending SuperCamp, I really found motivation to do better,” says the 15-year old student.
“Yes, she can be lazy sometimes,” laughs Maizatulakma’s mother, Zaidatulnisa binti Salleh, 39. “But she’s really a good girl. She’s the eldest in the family and takes care of her younger siblings. She makes sure that all her homework is completed before coming home. She is also actively working for an NGO on the side, something that she picks up from me. I too am actively working for several NGOs that empower children from the B40 group with education around our neighborhood.”.
Zaidatulnisa also hopes that the Malaysian education system will bring back examinations for the students. “I see examinations as a way to motivate students to apply what they have learnt at school. Examinations provide a quantifiable and measurable method for parents to assess their children's progress at school. It's not about making comparisons of whose child is better or smarter.”

Zuraida Zulkifli, 48, is a proud mother to Daliya Safeera Ramli, 15, a student at SMK Shah Alam, Bukit Jelutong. “She is very quiet at home and likes to keep to herself. She only approaches us when she needs help. She is different from her older sister who was a prefect and active at school. Her sister also attended a boarding school,” says the full-time housewife.
“I don’t really want to attend boarding school like my sister,” Daliya laughs. “I’m actually an introvert and I’m afraid to make mistakes, especially when speaking in front of the crowd. Even when studying, I rely on the Internet and Youtube videos when I hit a wall. It’s not always a bad thing as it allows students like me to learn at our own pace. Now that I have attended Supercamp, I feel more confident, especially in overcoming my fear of public speaking, and I am excited to share my opinions on various issues”.

Senior Assistant Administrator from Daliya’s school, Tuan Saripah Nor Riha Tuan Jaafar is extremely proud that one of her students was selected to receive a full scholarship to attend SuperCamp. “When TFM reached out to us to share the information about SuperCamp, we submitted 8 applications and were so delighted to know that despite the limited vacancies, Daliya made it through,” she says. “Daliya is a very dedicated student who attended all meetings set by TFM prior to her selection. I hope that she will return to our school and share everything she has learned here with her friends. We look forward to seeing more of our students attending SuperCamp in the future”.
SuperCamp is a global education brand that believes that children who are equipped with ‘the 8 Keys of Excellence’, a  foundation based on the Burklyn Business School; can transform themselves to become self-motivated learners. The 8 Keys of Excellence entail:
● Integrity
● Commitment
● Failure leads to Success

● Flexibility
● This is It

Meanwhile, TFM is an independent, not-for-profit organisation on a mission to give all children the opportunity to realise their potential through quality education. This education champion has been partnering with the Ministry of Education in Malaysia to reach high-need public schools. At the same time, TFM is one of the 61 partners of the prestigious global education network, Teach for All. Malakoff Amazing Hunt 2023

Was blessed to be one of the Media team to join in the Malakoff Amazing Hunt 2023 which included Staff and Stakeholders of Malakoff Corporation Berhad and Alam Flora Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Malakoff Group…

Malakoff Berhad (“MB”) was established in the early 1970s as a plantation-based business when the agricultural sector was at its peak. The Company was incorporated on 9 October 1975 and listed on Bursa Malaysia in 1976. In October 1993, a shift in the Group’s corporate direction led to the disposal of its plantation-based assets, followed by a venture into the power sector driven by the country’s surging electricity demand.

MB was presented with a golden opportunity when MMC Corporation Berhad (“MMC”) offered to acquire all of its assets as part of MMC’s transformation strategy to become a premier utilities and infrastructure player. The acquisition was completed on 30 April 2007 and subsequently, MB was officially delisted from the Main Market of Bursa Securities on 18 July 2007. This led to the formation of Malakoff Corporation Berhad on 25 April 2007. On 15 May 2015, Malakoff was relisted on Bursa Malaysia.

Malakoff has three new business pillars which are:-
Malakoff Green Solutions - focusing on providing green energy solutions through sustainable best practices such as solar, small hydro, biogas, biomass and carbon- free mobility infrastructure.

Japan’s iconic and award-winning BALMUDA has launched its two revolutionary kitchen appliances at a media event today - BALMUDA The Toaster and BALMUDA The Pot set to redefine Malaysians’ culinary experiences.

Founded in Tokyo in 2003 by Gen Terao, BALMUDA has built a strong reputation as the iconic maker of innovative dream appliances, having sold almost 2 million toasters in six regions globally since it made its debut in 2015. BALMUDA’s ethos is to design home appliances that will deliver a thrilling and wonderful experience to its users.

This combined with science and engineering; BALMUDA appliances offer unprecedented value to its users and BALMUDA The Toaster and BALMUDA The Pot are a true testament of innovative functionality at its best.

BALMUDA The Toaster offers a cutting-edge “steam technology” and precise temperature control to transform ordinary and overnight breads and pastries into fresh and perfect bakes! This amazing toaster has made the word “REBAKE” an everyday word in Japan and is best known as the “#the toaster that brings dead bread back to life” in South Korea.

Simply pour five cc of water in as a prelude to your REBAKE task. Heating more rapidly than air, the steam locks in the bread’s inner moisture before the surface is given a golden brown finish. The process draws out the delicious aroma and flavour unlike any other. This is complemented by a second-by-second control of three-temperature zones which create superb contrasts in flavour and texture – giving you crispy texture on the outside but still being moist and fluffy on the inside.

There are 4 distinct steam-driven modes designed to create the perfect confectionery offering of any genre, ranging from Western fares such as toast, croissant, pizza, sourdough to local delights like curry puff and roti canai. All these are made possible with the multi-faceted modes in “Toast”, “Cheese Toast”, “Baguette”, “Croissant” –  ensuring the best results for your REBAKE adventures. BALMUDA The Toaster also has a Classic mode which is heat- regulated to reach the desired temperature (170°C, 200 °C and 250°C) without the use of steam. The Classic mode is recommended for dishes such as gratin, cookies, even salmon and vegetables!

BALMUDA The Pot boasts of a pioneering precision pouring with its gooseneck feature, water temperature mastery and extraction techniques to brewing an exquisite and aromatic cuppa. BALMUDA The Pot sports a beautiful compact size, designed for the smooth pouring in everyday life with the unique design of a gentle glow which it’s visible from every single angle. Its petite size and light weight allow users to handle it steadily so they can get just the right amount of hot water whether it is hand drip coffee or a rich matcha latte.

According to Ms Lim Pei Yan, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Visionary Solutions Sdn Bhd (the sole distributor of BALMUDA Malaysia), the BALMUDA brand advocates the philosophy of “Better Moments, Better Life” – which aims to enrich lives through inspiring a new world of culinary experiences and discoveries for Malaysians for their meal times – be it at home, social, work or anywhere they may be.

“Malaysians love food. Eating is a very empowering experience and can bring so much joy, energy and connection with friends and family. The kitchen is the most creative place in the house. BALMUDA’s aim is to make the kitchen a more fun, exciting and enriching place to be in.

“Malaysians also live very busy lifestyles. More often than not, we don’t even have time to cook or enjoy a fresh and hearty breakfast but resort to a piece of overnight toast. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to bring that stale bread back to its original freshness and crispness? With BALMUDA, and now you can! Our wish is for everyone to enjoy good bakes at any time, anywhere - it’s just like having our personal baker with us all the time! That’s essentially the core attribute of BALMUDA The Toaster – redefining culinary experiences and advocating a love for life,” enthused Lim.

Award-winning pastry Chef Chong Ko Wai explained that making a delicious bake is not as easy as one thinks. The right ingredients, measurement and technique all contribute to the quality of the toast. Using the right appliance is absolutely crucial. “Besides being a beautiful kitchen appliance for my kitchen, BALMUDA The Toaster is very compact and handy to bring to anywhere to REBAKE my confectionery items to its original freshness for customers to try. So now everyone can enjoy fresh bakeries at its best, whenever and wherever they may be,” said Chef Chong.

Head Barista Wesley Liew explained, “Various factors come into play when brewing a quality cuppa. Take for instance, for a great coffee, one should consider the type of beans used, water quality, the right temperature and specific brewing techniques. BALMUDA The Pot not only looks elegant, it has the ability to heat the water within few minutes. The most striking feature is its gooseneck spout for precision pouring – which is key to control the flow rate and direction of the water to enhance the overall brew taste and quality. Hence, it’s not surprising that BALMUDA The Pot is a much sought-after item by baristas to compete and excel in international competitions.

Media and lifestyle influencers had the opportunity to experience with the new BALMUDA range via an immersive culinary session. They created their own versions of toasts with various ingredients and brewed various types of beverages with BALMUDA The Toaster and BALMUDA The Pot. Everyone was impressed by the design and technology of the other BALMUDA appliances on display, comprising BALMUDA The Plate, BALMUDA The Range, BALMUDA The Gohan, BALMUDA The Brew, BALMUDA The GreenFan, BALMUDA GreenFan Cirq, BALMUDA The Lantern and BALMUDA The Speaker.

BALMUDA The Toaster and BALMUDA The Pot retail at RM1,799 and RM799, respectively and are accessible at major electrical stores such as Harvey Norman, TBM, ESH, Best Denki, Volt and more to come.
Personally am amazed by the stylishness of the appliances and would dearly love to have one for Christmas… so get one for your loved one … I am sure that he or she would appreciate this!!!
