Taking control of diabetes with Glucerna

In Malaysia, around 3.6 million Malaysians are currently suffering from Diabetes, and this is one of the highest rates of incidence in Asia and the world, and my mother is one of the statistics....

Fortunately, you can learn how to manage diabetes to live longer and with a better quality of life than ever before by watching your diet and staying physically active.... And one of the must haves in your diet I would say is Glucerna, a diet which I decided to put my mom on...

In Abbott Malaysia’s recent survey where 158 respondents participated, the results showed high levels of Diabetes Burnout in individuals with diabetes, which in turn causes poor adherence, reduced self-care and poor glucose control. More than three-fourths of survey respondents said that maintaining a healthy weight and following a healthy diet were the two main stressors. The top two aspects of dietary management that cause the most stress are following a diet suitable for people with diabetes (72%) and keeping count of calories or carbohydrates daily (73%).
Professor Dr Winnie Chee from the department of nutrition & dietetics, International Medical University mentioned that stress can affect diabetes control, therefore managing the emotional and psychological state is as important as managing glucose readings. “People with diabetes are often burdened by many aspects of self-care, particularly dietary choices. Knowing the ‘right’ foods to eat that will not raise their blood sugar is a formidable challenge for most individuals. Diet control plays a key role in managing diabetes and delaying complications, hence a multidisciplinary healthcare team which includes a dietitian can assist people with diabetes in learning how to eat well with less stress and better manage their diabetes.”

Glucerna products are specifically designed to help manage blood sugar, when used as meal or snack replacements. For example, Glucerna shakes can be used in place of skipped meals or to replace poor food choices. Glucerna shakes have also been used as meal or partial meal replacements to support a weight loss plan.

The good news is Glucerna is now improved and the new Glucerna® offers an improved Low Glycaemic Carbohydrate System to help manage blood sugar, where special carbohydrates that are digested relatively slowly release glucose over a longer length of the gastrointestinal tract than simpler forms of carbohydrates, thus helping to improve post-meal glycaemic response.

The new Glucerna® has 4X Higher Myo-inositol compared to the previous version of Glucerna®.  Scientific studies have shown that myo-inositol helps to improve insulin sensitivity, leading to better glucose control...

Its dual fibre blend of soluble fibres (Fibersol-2 and FOS) and insoluble fibre (oat fibre) helps promote growth of good bacteria and helps maintain a healthy digestive system.

Its unique lipid blend contains Omega-3, Omega-6 & Omega-9 (monounsaturated fatty acid) and is low in cholesterol to support heart health.

So I got my mom to go on a 4 weeks journey with #BeInControlWithGlucerna. My mom has been a diabetic for over 3 years and so far her blood sugar reading has been erratic. Going as high as 10.0 mmol/L when she misbehaved to a more reasonable 6.5 mmol/L.

My mom found Glucerna easy to drink and tasty, and I am grateful for the fact that the new Glucerna® has 28 vitamins and minerals, including increased vitamin D, calcium, zinc and iron to help meet the nutritional needs of people with diabetes, so I don't have worry about her not getting enough nutrition...

It contains 35% higher folic acid and 56% higher iron (New Glucerna® Vanilla vs previous version of Glucerna® Vanilla) which is ideal also for pregnant women suffering from gestational diabetes.

Glucerna® starts working from Day 1 of consumption, with research showing that post-meal glucose levels after taking Glucerna® was significantly lower than after taking oatmeal of a similar caloric level.

With regular consumption of Glucerna®, significant reductions in daily glucose fluctuations can be seen in as little as 4 weeks, as Glucerna®’s enhanced slow-release carbohydrate system helps minimise blood sugar spikes and maintain blood sugar levels within the recommended range.

Did you know Glucerna® is the most recommended diabetes-specific formula by healthcare experts in Malaysia?

The new Glucerna® is ideal for individuals with pre-diabetes, diabetes and gestational diabetes.

People with diabetes can incorporate 1-2 servings of Glucerna® as a low calorie meal replacement or a healthy snack alternative to support diabetes management, depending on criteria such as BMI, glycaemic control and nutritional needs, as advised by a healthcare professional.

The new Glucerna® is available in 3 delicious flavours – vanilla, chocolate and their new flavour wheat. Muslims can also benefit from Glucerna’s innovation as it is halal-certified.

The new Glucerna® contains dairy protein (calcium caseinate and milk protein concentrate) and vitamin D3 from lanolin, and is thus suitable for vegetarians who consume dairy products.

So if you know of any family members or loved ones suffering from diabetes, this is a good diet plan to put them on.

  1. Because they may continually motivate youngsters, games are viewed as viable instruments to assist them in improving medication compliance. They can incorporate gaming—a pastime for teenagers—with interactive technologies, artificial intelligence, and educational materials. The advantage of games is that they can hold people's attention in a manner that conventional educational materials cannot. Speaking of games, check out the game created by Arnold Rauers called Card Thief. And also visit this link - playpc.io/features/games-like-far-cry/ and check what game they can offer to you.
