More than a hundred thousand cancer patients have received assistance from MAKNA and we hope to boost the number even further from the funds collected from this campaign."

"More importantly, this campaign is specifically designed to generate awareness and ensure the public are well educated about cancer. MAKNA will also be present at all of our sales location to provide valuable information about cancer prevention and the services they provide for cancer patients. The t-shirts' designs are very cool and we feel it is a positive way to raise much needed attention for this cause, and perhaps be a 'walking billboard' for cancer awareness," added Aireen.

Farahida Mohd Farid, General Manager MAKNA said "Cancer being a global threat has pushed MAKNA to work towards in keeping the newly diagnosed cancer cases low. This effort needs continuous awareness and support from all. Preventive programs are important to keep survival rate high through early detection. MAKNA Mobile Mammogram Unit aims to tackle early detection of Breast Cancer which is the number one killer for women.  Partnership with AirAsia Berhad is an opportunity to voice out our nationwide appeal and stress the importance of healthy living. We hope this campaign promotes greater significance and send a meaningful message to the public as well as give a  feel good factor of wearing these special edition t-shirts and hopefully for them to get themselves checked regularly".

New Zealand Food Connection Chef Challenge

So I was at the New Zealand Food Connection/ Trade Enterprise fair recently at the Intercontinental Hotel and I was bowled over by the products on offer there... There were just so many amazing products to check out and try out....

Those who were early even got to see New Zealand Masterchef Nadia Lim in action preparing some culinary delights....

Alliance Group Limited is New Zealand’s largest processor of lamb under the Pure South label. It is a cooperative, 100% owned by farmers, established 67 years ago in 1948.

Alliance is the world’s largest exporter of lamb supplying the best quality lamb to over 65 global markets including leading food hotels, restaurants and retail groups. Alliance is a leading processor of New Zealand beef and venison. All livestock are grass fed (free range) by Alliance’s shareholders
– the farmers.

There is a constant and growing demand for a healthier choice of red meat in Southeast Asia. Pure South lamb and beef are natural, grass-fed, nutritious and healthy.

Alliance Group products are carefully packed and recognised as a preferred and premium meat brand because of its high consistency of presentation and eating quality.

New Zealand’s strict quarantine laws contribute the highest world class standards for maximum food safety.

Here are some recipes I have created and made with the New Zealand origin ingredients given to me...I am no Master Chef, so my dish is basically simple and easy....

 (for the Lamb)  Ingredients:-
1 rack of Pure South lamb ribs, trimmed
1 1/2 tablespoon of Anchor Pure New Zealand butter
2 tablespoon of chopped garlic
Black pepper and some salt to taste

Method:-
Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celcius...

Trim the skin and fat away from the rack of lamb....

Sprinkle black pepper and some salt (if needed) on the lamb...

Add the garlic on the lamb.

Add the butter and mixed well with garlic and lamb....

Then you can either put in a baking pan and cover with foil or wrap the lamb rack with heavy duty  aluminium foil.

Then put it in the oven for about 15 mins. Once done, take it out, leave for 5 minutes, open the foil, turn the lamb rack over and drench it with the juice and close the foil again and bake it in the oven for another 15 minutes....

(for mashed potato) Ingredients:-
3 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut
1/8 cup of Anchor Pure New Zealand Butter
1/8 cup of Tatua cheese sauce
1/2 cup of Tatua whipping cream
salt and ground pepper to taste.

Method:-
Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with salt water. Cover and let boil for about 25 minutes , strain the potatoes dry and place in food processor (since I do not have a potato masher) and put all the ingredients inside and blend until smooth....

(brocolli and tomato) Ingredients :-

1 whole brocolli
1 tomato
1 tablespoon chopped garlic (I love plenty of garlic on my food , but if you do not fancy garlic too much, you can lessen it)
2 tablespoon Anchor Pure New Zealand butter (melted)

Method:-
Just place the cut up florets of the brocolli on a baking tray along with the tomatoes
Sprinkle the garlic all over the brocolli, and drizzle the melted butter all over the brocolli......

Place in the oven at 200 degrees Celcius and bake for 12 minutes....

Once the brocolli and mash potatoes are done, you can arrange them on a plate and serve...the result is simple and healthy yet delicious baked lamb rack....!!!

Early in the morning when my daughter wakes up and rushes to get ready for school, I usually whip up an easy breakfast. This simple recipe is a no brainer from the New Zealand origin products I got...

I took two slices of bread, cut it in a shape of a cat...then, I buttered the bread with Anchor Pure New Zealand Butter and Pic's Really Good Peanut Butter. I add some Nutella or chocolate sauce for the cat's eyes and mouth... and cut up a cute Rockit apple....

I admit it is not the best presentation there is, but it is a simple and nutritious breakfast my daughter enjoyed before she headed out to wait for her school van to send her to school, and all done in less then 5 minutes!!!

Rockit apples are transforming and challenging both the snack food market and the fruit market  worldwide with unique apples which are specifically bred to be genetically small, and marketed in novel tube packaging formatted as a “health snack”.

The apple itself is small in size (1.5 x the size of a golf ball) with a sweet flavour, a distinctive bright red blush and a fantastic crisp crunch. Rockit is the perfect snack for children who require a healthy snack, and it is equally ideal for busy adults and sports people.

Rockit is one of a kind, there are no other miniature apples on the market which taste as great! Not only are the apples unique but the packaging stands out as well; it looks good, is hygienic and is convenient for people to grab on the go.

Tatua is one of New Zealand’s oldest independent dairy companies, formed in 1914 and is now recognized internationally for its innovative approach to developing specialized dairy products for the foodservice and food manufacturing industries.

Tatua is able to produce quality dairy products utilising fresh cream and milk sourced from their own farms. Due to Tatua geographical position, all milk sourced is from within a 10km radius. This enables faster processing of fresh milk into quality foodservice products.

Tatua offers a wide range of convenient foodservice dairy products that are currently being used in applications for bakery, airline catering, hotels, restaurant chains and food manufacturers. Tatua dairy products are sold throughout Australasia, Latin America and Asia Pacific.

Included in the Tatua offering is an extensive range of whipping and cooking creams for use within bakery or culinary cooking applications, cheese sauce blends for hotels and foodservice convenience channels plus formulated beverages for Ice Cream manufacturers.

Along with these, we did manage to check out a lot of other interesting booths and sponsors that included yummy Kapiti ice cream, Anchor Pure New Zealand Butter, Horley's Sculpt products, Talley's New Zealand Greenshell Mussels and seafood, 180 degrees natural crackers, Farmers Mill New Zealand flour, Whittakers chocolate and more.....

Anyway, those were among two of my recipes I manage to create out of some of the products given to me for sampling...

There is also a Sandy Baked Mussels recipe over my instagram....  huhuhu

The amazing BiO -LiFE Astaxanthin .....

When I was asked if I would like to try out the Astaxanthin supplement I was keen... however, I got my Astaxanthin late in the post, it came sometime a few days ago and I just got started .

Basically as age catches up, blemishes, pores and pigmentations also catches up and I am no different...

So what is Astaxanthin? I did not hear about this before now, myself, since I had not step foot in the pharmacy to browse in quite a while...

According to Suzy Cohen, R.Ph  Astaxanthin (pronounced "asta-ZAN-thin") is a naturally-occurring carotenoid found in algae, shrimp, lobster, crab and salmon. Carotenoids are pigment colors that occur in nature and support good health.

Beta carotene, for example, is orange.

Astaxanthin, dubbed the "king of the carotenoids" is red, and is responsible for turning salmon, crab, lobster and shrimp flesh pink. In the animal kingdom, astaxanthin is found in the highest concentration in the muscles of salmon. Scientists finds astaxanthin helps provide the endurance these remarkable animals need to swim upstream.

For us humans, astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant with broad health implications and unlike other antioxidants, such as beta carotene, zeaxanthin, vitamin E, C, D and selenium.

There are many properties that make this super-carotenoid unique.
Astaxanthin compares astoundingly well to other nutrients and powerful lipid-soluble antioxidants when it comes to free radical scavenging and neutralizing singlet oxygen.*
When it comes to free radical scavenging, astaxanthin is said to be…
  • 65 times more powerful than vitamin C
  • 54 times stronger than beta-carotene
Besides that, astaxanthin has been shown to be very more effective than other carotenoids and other nutrients at “singlet oxygen quenching by being up to…
  • 800 times stronger than CoQ10*
  • 6000 times greater than vitamin C*
  • 550 times more powerful than green tea catechins*
  • 11 times stronger than beta-carotene*
Astaxanthin was even found to be as much as 2.75 stronger than lutein with regard to singlet oxygen quenching.

Quite an awesome antioxidant… don't you reckon?
The comparisons have been made against some other incredible nutrients in their own right. But, astaxanthin can blow them away when it comes down to effective free radical scavenging and singlet oxygen quenching. Wowwww!!!!

And here's even more on how astaxanthin is potentially so effective…
  • Able to cross the blood-brain barrier (beta-carotene and some others don't do this)
  • Protects your brain and nervous system from oxidative stress
So after all that's been researched and said... I am on my way.... trying out this fabulous supplement.....

Affordable Seafood in Pasir Penambang

Pasir Penambang is a Chinese fishing village town across the river from Kuala Selangor, located at left right after crossing the bridge. Kuala Selangor is situated at the main saltwater fish catching area of western coastal of Peninsular Malaysia. Kuala Selangor became one of the main fishing villages because of the Selangor River (Sungai Selangor) is one of the natural fishing boats docking area (Fishing Boat Jetty)

Seafood is definitely one of the main attractions in Kuala Selangor, and many visitors from  Klang Valley goes to Kuala Selangor to taste the famous, cheap and fresh seafood served in an assortment of dishes. The majority of the seafood restaurants here are  Chinese owned but they are pork free, so therefore suitable for people do not eat pork.

It is definitely a must go place if you are a seafood aficionado, because the seafood here is very fresh and very affordable.

A day trip to Kuala Selangor will notbe complete if you do not a seafood lunch or dinner at one of the Chinese seafood restaurants (with a view of the river) here. So, since we were there at Kuala Selangor,we decided to stop by for a good family meal!!!

Our restaurant of choice was the River View Seafood Restaurant. The signage is in orange, and big, so you cannot miss it.. However , there is but one problem here... getting a parking.. especially on weekends and public holidays...

There is a huge stone crab in front of the restaurant and pictured here, is my lovely step daughter Alyssa....

The view of the restaurant. It is open air and you can enjoy the fresh river breeze... It can be a little bit warm but with the fans, the heat is bearable.

Mind you, as you can see, there are no prices on the menu, and that would normally be cause for worry, when you are eating in some fancy restaurant, but in this case, rest assured as I can assure you the prices here are very reasonably priced and affordable...

My lovely family.......all hungrily anticipating our seafood feast...

The cutleries come in boiling hot water for sanitary purposes and a small plate of garlic and cut birds eye chillies or chilli padi is served

And our dishes starts coming out... starting with Butter Prawns....a must have for prawn lovers.

Claypot Tofu with squid, cauliflower, peas, carrots, mushrooms and baby corn... I am a big fan of Japanese tofu so this was my must have...

This here is the Soft Shell Crab fried with Salted Egg ..it was crunchy and absolutely finger licking good...

For vegetables, we had the baby kailan though it did not quite seem like baby kailan to me... errmmm or did I not recognize my vegetables...however it was really fresh and crunchy, and well flavoured...

Then last and not least, our choice of fish, the Seabass steamed with their Special Sauce... which was intensely flavoured with sweet, spicy, and sour all at once... lip smacking good.... but then again, I always preferred my fish steamed...

Ok.. the damage?? How much did you think my meal for 6 people inclusive of drinks, rice etc cost???

RM200? RM300? RM400?

I think if I had ordered the same things here in one of those seafood restaurants in Kuala Lumpur , it would have cost me that much!!

But we only paid RM177.50 for all that, inclusive of GST!!! Amazing huh. Actually , to tell you the truth I was expecting my bill to be RM200++

Let me do a little run down...on the bill

Soft Crab   3 x RM8  =  RM24.00
Prawns   1 x RM40  =  RM40.00
SeaBass  1 x  RM49   =  RM49.00
Beancurd    1  x  RM16    =  RM16.00
Vegetables    1  x  RM12     =  RM12.00

and the other stuff were coconuts, lychee drink, rice, tea, towels etc...

The River View Seafood restaurant is built on stilts across the shore, with a magnificent view of Bukit Melawati, mangroves and you can just enjoy the scenery and sights of boats floating lazily across the river..

The view is absolutely calming and peaceful....

Anyway, do check it out when you are in Kuala Selangor...
