Jalan-jalan :The real Teochew Ais Kachang... at least to me

Ais kachang... I am weird ok.. I do NOT like kachang  or beans or nuts unless they are just nuts and I am in the mood for nuts and ais kachang do freak me out some times in some places.... with the colour and presentation looking like a horror story.
When  I was in Penang, just before heading back here to KL, I couldn't resist a bowl of the Teochew ais kachang... made to order , naturally...minus beans and nuts to the amusement of the proprietor but she indulged me when I asked for extra evaporated milk and some nutmeg on it..... and oh gosh.... it was just heavenly!!!!

Giants did exist once upon a time, long ago....

B4INREMOTE-aHR0cDovLzIuYnAuYmxvZ3Nwb3QuY29tLy1HV0k0SkRRN0pvby9Vc3dsWklzZy01SS9BQUFBQUFBQXFGNC9KYWdQeWMwRXZxMC9zMTYwMC9saWdlcnMuanBn
Lions have a gene that basically says, “dude, you're running in a pack, you need to have powerful DNA content to mate with a female lion and father a child and continue your line, so be aggressive DNA.” (simplistic explanation)
If you take a male lion and mate him with a female tiger, you get a liger. A liger is substantially bigger than either parent ever were. If you mate a male tiger with a female lion, however, the tiger does not have this aggressive DNA and so he's regular sized.
My hypothesis is that Neanderthal and Denisovans both went extinct eventually, but their DNA is found in our modern-day DNA. They both might have had this aggressive DNA in order to try to mate within a small grouping or dating pool in a sparsely populated world. If one of them mated with a female homo sapiens – a large child with a sloping forehead and prominent brow (ancient giant description from skulls found). They would have DNA of Northern European or possible South Pacific origins if we did testing on giant bones today. If these people mated among themselves, they would continue to produce tall children and an entire race.

(Nikolai Valuev, a former heavyweight boxer, 7 feet tall)
This man above is a classic giant Neanderthal type. In the case of mating between a giant and a human, that “aggressive/dominant” DNA from a male could produce some taller than usual offspring in future generations and some features, like these facial features, in the offspring. These traits show up in our population and this might be the explanation. We know we have Denisovan and Neanderthal DNA in modern humans and some of these facial traits could be explained by their genetic influence.
Interestingly, ancient giants in Catalina island were found to be blond and of Northern European descent. No doubt some papa Neanderthals mated with some Homo Sapien females along their arduous trek. (“The Ancient Giants Who Ruled America: The Missing Skeletons and the Great Smithsonian Cover-Up” by Richard Dewhurst).
What is intriguing is that these giants were reported here before paleo-indians arrival. If that is so, and they had language, hieroglyphics, tools and more, the mixing of these two divergences of human might have created a very bright and very big offspring, giving them both perhaps the intelligence of homo sapiens and the spirituality of Neanderthal or some such mix. Some ancient giants were described as having coarse black hair and that could be a mix of Denisovan male/homo sapiens female.
In fact, we might want to call these crossbreedings with homo sapiens females:
Neander-Sapien
Deno-Sapien
So, my proposal is that Neanderthal and Denosvans did not go extinct, they evolved into a giant race of people with blond, red, and black hair. And, we called them ancient giants.
In fact, we could take it a step further by explaining today's Bigfoot in terms of the evolution of these giants, with varied hair coloring, living in the same regions ancient giants did, and having adapted protective hair covering or a gene variant that created hormone release and overproductive hair growth, aka hypertrichosis, sloping foreheads and rather conical-looking skulls.
If we wonder why the powers that be have covered up finds of ancient giants, all we have to do is look at the time period in which many of these finds occurred. The skulls were obvious Neanderthal-like and yet these ancient people were showing civilization and size that were incongruent with what researchers thought they knew of evolution. Imagine telling citizens that, not only was evolution real, but Neanderthals might have been smarter than homo sapiens in the past.

Rare two headed whale found on Mexican Beach

The picture is indeed of a whale with two heads, but more precisely, it is the world's first documented case of Siamese twin grey whales.

The 4 metres carcass was found washed ashore in a Mexican lagoon surprised locals when it was found they were conjoined.

Biologist Benito Bermudez says the whales were found alive in the Ojo de Liebre lagoon in the Baja California Peninsula but lived only a few hours.
Bermudez said Wednesday they were linked at the waist, with two full heads and tail fins.
Bermudez is a marine biologist with the National Natural Protected Areas Commission, or CONANP. He said scientists are collecting skin, muscle and baleen samples to study the creatures.
Every year more than 20,000 gray whales swim to Mexico from Alaska to mate and give birth.

My first experience walking blindly into a BodyPump class....

Yesterday was my first time into a gym class after not attending gym for about 5-6 years. I have since then grown fat and put on weight. Joining Livesmart360 gave me the energy and the inspiration to join a gym and prove my worth and also be role model.

All these while the only classes I joined were Pilates and Yoga and an Aerobic class or two, and Belly Dancing... And I foolishly walked into a BodyPump class... hahaha.. I am also laughing at myself...

And oh my gosh... what a shock it was, but geared for a challenge, I followed the class to the end diligently.. or at least 98%... faltering at the end... and almost feeling faint towards the end of the session. It was truly a bootcamp kinda thingie... and my muscles and body are all screaming from the over work out....  and when it was over, I felt like I was walking on rubbery legs...

But well.. it was kinda interesting and challenging but/and I am so gonna do it again, my own promise and keeping up to my New Year's resolution.. next week... I need my fit body back and quick!!!!!

According to the wikipedia, the BodyPump classes are performed to music using free weights-plates, barbells and an aerobic step. Participants choose their weights based on the exercise and their personal goals. Major muscle groups are worked via series of compound and isolation-based exercises including squatspressesdead lifts. The focus is towards muscle endurance using several repetitionsThe full BodyPump class consists of 10 tracks, each (except for tracks 1 and 10) targeting a specific muscle group. The full class (including time between tracks for weight changes) runs for 60 minutes.
For the 60-minute format, the class is arranged to the 8 tracks on a CD produced by the company, timed to allow for around 60 minutes of exercise and 2 minutes of weight changes between tracks.
  • Track 1: Provides a warm-up with the lowest weight of the class. During the warm-up, most muscle groups are trained in short succession, and stance and barbell grip is often changed when cycling through all different exercises.
  • Track 2: Squats. This track targets the legs, notably the quadriceps and glutes and participants are advised to use the highest weight of the entire class. A typical weight for squats ranges between two and three times the warm-up weight. The weight is placed in the neck of the participant.
  • Track 3: Chest. In this track, participants are invited to lie on their backs on a step, and perform chest presses with the barbell. Sometimes, depending on the choreography of the release, these are combines with chest push-ups. A typical weight will be around 1,5 times the warm-up weight.
  • Track 4: Back. In this track, participants stand up and train the muscles of their back. Exercises performed vary from release to release, but mostly contain dead lifts, dead rows and sometimes clean-and-presses. A typical weight selection will be between chest and squat weight.
  • Track 5: Triceps. As the first of the smaller muscle training, participants will select a lower weight, usually slightly above warm-up weight and perform triceps exercises. These change per release, but mostly consist of triceps extensions with a barbell, triceps pushups, kickbacks with a single free weight and dips on a step.
  • Track 6: Biceps. After the triceps, participants stand up again and use the barbell to do bicep crunches and sometimes bicep dead rows. Mostly, the weight will remain the same as for triceps, or slightly more.
  • Track 7: Lunges. Participants take on a heavier weight, usually the same as for the chest track to train the legs again. In this track, squats can be included but most of the time will be spent doing lunges to train the butt and the glutes. These lunges can be performed with the barbell in the neck, or without a barbell but by adding a plyometric element by jumping at the end of the lunge.
  • Track 8: Shoulders. The participants select a weight comparable to their warm-up weight on the barbell, and two free weights. The track traditionally starts with pushups, after which the participants use free weights for shoulder raises, either to the side or to the front. At the end, the bar is used for upright or overhead presses, with a heavier weight than using free weights only. Sometimes the choreography adds another set of pushups at the end.
  • Track 9: Abdominals and core. Usually no weights are used, and participants perform abdominal crunches or planks to strengthen the core.
  • Track 10: Cool down and stretching.
A new BodyPump release, consisting of new music and choreography, is developed and released to health clubs and instructors every three months. Muscle groups are always worked in the same order as stated in the Les Mills Instructor Resources, allowing for consistency across releases. Instructors can choose to work with one release, or mix tracks from multiple releases, to target strength endurance gains for their particular class. Instructors and trainers are provided with guidance from Les Mills International regarding the mixing of tracks for classes. The pre-choreographed class meets the Les Mills methodology that students will find a more consistent experience when attending a BodyPump class in any location around the world.
Music is used to create a "musical journey" that guides and encourages participants through the work out. A normal class consists of 10 tracks each lasting between 4 and 6 minutes. These are usually cover versions or re-mixes of popular chart or classic rock releases. The tracks are mixed to allow for an aerobic block count of 32 beats and will vary in speed depending on the exercise being performed. The music is choreographed and (with the exception of the first and last track which are used for warm up and stretch/ cool down purposes respectively) each track targets a different muscle group. The tracks, in order, follow the format of: warm up, legs/squats, chest, back, triceps, biceps, lunges, shoulders, abdominals and finally a cool down encompassing a variety of stretches. Between each track there is a short interval to allow for stretching the muscle just exercised, change weights for the next track and to allow the instructor to brief the next exercise.
Due to the nature of the program maximum heart rate (MHR) increases in different phases. In addition, the aerobic capacity changes are based on music selection beats per minute (BPM).

Jalan-jalan : the 70's ice

It's the building with a lion dance in front of it!!!!

We took a trip down memory lane at this 70's Ice stall, situated at the entrance of Street Art House along Armenian Street.. It had been a long walk, my daughter and I were perspiring and panting after having walked a few kilometres, and the idea of anything cold was truly welcomed.

Jalan-jalan : The Kapitan Keling mosque in Penang

The Kapitan Keling Mosque along Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling (formerly Pitt Street), is one of the best known mosque in Penang. Before the construction of the Penang State Mosque, the Kapitan Keling Mosque was used as the state mosque of Penang, since it is the largest historic mosque in George Town. The Kapitan Keling Mosque was named after Caudeer Mohuddeen, the head of the Indian Muslim community credited to have built it around 1800.

Jalan-Jalan -Penang Road Famous Chendol /Ais Kachang

Penang is a wonderful place to find all sorts of weird and wonderful foods.  One place that is on every visitors food must eat, besides the nasi kandar or char koay teow is definitely the famous chendol stall, that has been selling chendol and ice kachang since the mid to early 1900s.  There is almost always a queue when you visit the stall because of it's popularity.  The stall sells other desserts and drinks, such as ais kachang (shaved ice with red beans, grass jelly, peanuts, syrup and gula melaka) , and drinks such as syrup, chrysanthemum tea and air pegaga (refreshing green colour leaf of the pegaga blended into juice-personally, my favourite)

A place called Tous Les Jours...

I got into a confused frenzy just the other day when my friend /client told me to meet her at the WOLO. I was waiting for her in front of the Fahrenheit 88 or the ex KL Plaza. Being a Klang Valley person now , I seldom step foot in Bukit Bintang unless it was a walk to Pavilion via the covered walkway from the KLConvention Centre.
I had to then walk to Lot 10 and across the road to Sungai Wang looking blank. The policeman at the corner booth looked at me in askance and then I asked him " Bang, adakah tempat di sini nama WOLO?" (Brother, is there are place here called WOLO?) which he then pointed out to me much to my embarrassment since it was the other building opposite Lot 10. Thanking him, I rushed off as I was kinda late for my appointment .
Stepping into the Tous Les Jours was like stepping into a bakery in another country. It brings to mind Europe..

I ordered an tropical fruit tea or something... It was pretty delicious.. actually I think it was iced lemon tea but with tiny chopped bits of mango and strawberry.

Love the deco.. don't you? And the pastries really taste lovely. I bought some buns to take away and I had these in my office with another colleague and they were mouthwateringly delicious... far beyond my expectation..

Another thing I was surprised was that the staff all greets customers in Korean "anyoung haseyo", until I realized it was actually Korean owned..
The pastries, cakes and all sold here are quite reasonably priced as any other boutique bakery that are now adays popping up all over the place.
 outside.....
Tous les Jours  opened from 8 am until 11 pm, everyday. The location of Tous les Jours, Bukit Bintang is just opposite of H&M, Bukit Bintang, McDonald Bukit Bintang and Monorail Station Bukit Bintang.
The Tous les Jours (TLJ) at Bukit Bintang offers many types of kinds breads and cakes, all recipes from Korea. I did not know it but TLJ is a very popular boutique bakery in Korea. and that this branch of TLJ is actually the 2nd one. The first branch of TLJ in Malaysia is Tous les Jours at Telawi Square, Bangsar, Malaysia.
