How to Care For Oily Skin

Did you know that oily skin happens when the oil glands in your skin begins to produce excess oil...

It’s a natural process which we cannot quite stop, but what you can do is to take steps to manage and care for oily skin.... Oily skin can feel pretty uncomfortable and unpleasant, but if you have a great skincare routine and treat your skin gently, the problem is eased...

Like most things, caring for oily skin is easier said than done because it can be pretty challenging having to determine how to keep grease at bay, and sometimes we feel that since our skin is already so oily... It hardly needs any moisturizer, right??

Wrong!!!! This would be because when you don’t moisturize, your skin starts receiving signals that it needs more moisture, and then it starts producing more oil and overcompensates in yje bid to keep your skin supple....

So when you moisturize your skin, you can actually help reduce your skin oiliness and keep your skin hydrated at a more manageable level... On saying that, do be sure to use a moisturizer day and night to keep your skin oil at bay... Hey, it rhymes!!!

As I mentiones, taking care of your oily skin is all about keeping your skin moisture levels well balanced and finding the right skincare regimen that really suits and works for you without overly drying your skin...

So you still have to go though your skin care regime which I am sharing here...

Wash your face regularly but do not over clean... Over-cleansing can strip your skin of its essential oils, which  then make your skin produce more.... So to strike the right balance, it is recommended to cleanse your face once in the morning and once in the evening as well as after a workout or hard work which you are sweating... Do choose a gentle soap or facial cleanser formulated for oily skin to relieve your skin of any pollutants, bacteria, and oil that makes your face greasy looking...

Next, use a toner, but be careful of your choice of toner. Astringent toners that contain alcohol tend to dry out the skin.... Use a light toner that helps balance out your skin’s pH and clear your skin of any oil or bacteria that might be  left on the skin after cleansing...

Use a facial mask.... A good face masks can help treat and decrease oily skin by absorbing and cleansing the oils from our skin’s surface... It also improves the baseline level of moisture and hydration of our skin so that it doesn’t feel the need to overproduce oil... Choose face masks that contain natural and pure ingredients that won't clog your pores or inhibit hydration... Some recommended ingredients include kaolin or bentonite clay which helps draw out impurities, activated charcoal which helps to deep clean, and alpha or beta hydroxy acids (like salicylic, glycolic, or lactic acids) which helps exfoliate your skin gently...

As mentioned earlier... Don't forget to apply moisturizers to your skin. Look out for for skin care products that are formulated for your skin type - a lightweight lotion is highly recommended to help keep your skin hydrated.... You should also keep an eye out for the word matte—mattifying products can help reduce the look of excess shine on your skin...

Do not forget the most important step, which is sun protection.... Sun protection should be top of mind in all skin care routines, irregardless of your skin type. For oily skin, it is recommended to apply a broad-spectrum oil-free sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher daily before heading outside—and toss the bottle in your tote so that you can reapply at least every two hours, or immediately after swimming or sweating..

Make it a point to also wash your makeup brushes, blenders, and skin care tools regularly.... Cleaning them may seem like a hassle, but it’s an amazing idea to do so because if you don't., oils, dirt, and makeup can build up on your brushes and tools, and then you are probably transferring these impurities to your skin when you use it... The good news is, cleansing items doesn’t have to be difficult....

Be sure to stock up on blotting papers and medicated pads... Having blotting papers, mattifying setting powders, setting sprays and blotting sponges are heaven sent and you will soon make these products your best friends  in maintaining a more balanced skin all day long....
