Powering Up the Putrajaya Night Marathon 2018 with US Potatoes

Yours truly was over at Putrajaya recently for the Putrajaya Night Marathon 2018...

It was here where we found the US Potato booth... and well... We were kinda curious as to why a potato company would actually set up a booth and be a sponsor in a marathon... and we got the answer!!!

Did you know tha potatoes has over 160 different varieties and it can be prepared many different ways...

And.... although it is said to be high in carbohydrate, if you were to actually bake a potato, it becomes a relatively low-calorie and nutritious food, high in several vitamins and minerals!!! I kid you not....

Potatoes and their skin can be exceptionally healthful, low calorie, high fiber food that can offer significant protection against cardiovascular disease and cancer...and surprise, surprise.. it can be good if you are also on diet!!! Well, depending on the way you prepare them that is.. Fried potatoes or french fries are a no no, so is mashed potatoes laden with lots of butter and cream and what not....

Potatoes contain complex carbohydrates, that make you feel fuller for a longer as well as being a low calorie food.... One potato on its own is just about 26 calories...

One of my daughter's favorite way of eating potato is by baking it... Baked potatoes are among the best ways to prepare them as your baked potato is high in carbohydrates, as well as a good source of dietary fiber....

A large potato contains nearly 7 g of fiber. Dietary fiber is the indigestible portion of a plant that is an essential component of a healthy diet and digestive system to help maintain normal bowel movements, controls blood sugar levels, lowers cholesterol and may help aid in weight loss....

So when you are looking to powering your performance, potatoes are just perfect as they provide the carbohydrate, potassium
and energy you need.....

We need carbohydrates as the primary fuel for our brain and a key source of energy for our muscles? Carbohydrates are important for optimal physical and mental performance...

A medium sized potato with its skin contains about 26 grams of carbohydrates.... and I was truly surprise myself to fond out that... potatoes are actually a nutrient-dense carb that contain more of several essential vitamins and minerals than brown rice or whole wheat
bread (compared on a per-serving basis)....

An average potato with the skin actually contains 620 milligrams of potassium which is more potassium than a banana!!!!

Potassium is an important electrolyte that is necessary for optimum body function, and having too few can cause cramps, as many athletes know...

Potatoes are also known to be more energy-packed than any other popular vegetable... stuffed with phytonutrients, which are organic components of plants said to promote good health.... These phytonutrients include carotenoids, flavonoids and caffeic acid....

So that is why it actually is highly recommended for an active lifestyle or when you are competing in a sports event like the Putrajaya Night Marathon.. because this amazing potato seriously fuels up your body and brain throughout the day....

Choose from the huge varieties of potatoes and the different way of preparations (except fried) to keep your life healthy and easy....

On that note, as a mom, I am gonna ensure my girl has more (unfried) potato option in her diet from soup, baked, mashed and the list goes on for a healthier lifestyle and to energize her days of course!!!
