CyberWira, Didik Anak Digital campaign

Did you know that according to a UNICEF study, 2 out of 5 children reported having bad experiences they don’t want to tell anyone about online...

Being a mother of a teenager and being lucky my daughter and I have a transparent understanding- where she should be able to talk to me about anything, my daughter has told me the number of times she had been bullied online, she has also been receiving unwanted messages and images on social media and it is pretty scary, but it happens...

She also has been asked to send nudes and been sent nudes by others... But fortunately she is smart and she refuses... And for the nudes she receive, she deleted the photos and sent videos of her cutting carrots or chopping cucumbers before blocking them...

And as a mother, I am worried, though fortunately my 17 year old daughter is more computer savvy and smarter then others...

It is not a laughing matter and we have to take it seriously, because even prior to the pandemic, MCMC has reported that 90% of our children are already online.... And according to Cybersafe, 92% of children have social media accounts.

That’s why I have gotten my daughter Anne signed on to CyberWira and where she further learn how to  protect herself further from scammers online and to also recognise criminal activity online...

CyberWira is a product from LeapEd, an Award-winning social enterprise and Malaysia’s first homegrown Education Service Provider (ESP). CyberWira courses are ideal for youths 13-18

It has been around quite a while, since it was established way back in September 2010...

LeapEd was established by Khazanah National in partnership with Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia, Yayasan AMIR, Institut Pendidikan Guru, UNESCO, Yayasan Hasanah, Yayasan UEM, TNB and Petronas... And they undertake education transformation programmes and projects to support system transformation, school leaders, teachers, students, parents and the wider community.

As a parent, it can be kind of difficult for us parents to keep up with online developments and help teach our kids and teens the best practices... We cannot be monitoring them 24/7 and as teenagers, our kids are beginning to demand their own space and privacy...

And since technology use can no longer be avoided, with PDPR and such, it is only important that we educate our teens to live responsibly with it

So CyberWira is the perfect solution to teach our teens that there are online opportunities are there for the taking...

At the same time, they also learn that
personal data is the most valuable commodity of 21st Century and it has to be protected...

CyberWira also highlights the differences between online and offline communication, as well as copyright and the importance of respecting others work...

It also teaches our teens their rights and responsibilities when using technology...

CyberWira consists of 8 interesting Modules that addresses global and local digital concerns to empower our children to confidently navigate the digital world....

When I put Anne through the modules she first complained that it was silly, but then she began learning a few new things and found the modules interesting...

Now Anne can confidently use technology safely, responsibly and creatively to hopefully build herself a good online reputation... She has also learn to identify danger, fake news, scams, and cyberbullying in the digital world...

As her mother, and a single mother, I am thankful for CyberWira as it personally makes me more confident that Anne is well, at least a little more internet savvy and can understand and identify the positive & negative aspects of using the Internet...

So I believe CyberWira courses are really great for parents who are worried about their kids spending too much time online and getting into the harmful and dark side of the cyber world....
