Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) was on a mission to save some people in a submarine in the unexplored recesses of the Mariana Trench when he was forced to abort his mission, abandon and sacrifice half his crew just to make a decision to save the other half. His colleagues did not understand what he did and accused him of cowardice and being delusional...
The tragic incident earned him a dishonorable discharge, what ultimately cost him his career, his marriage and any semblance of honor was his unsupported and incredulous claims of what caused it - an attack on his vessel by a mammoth, 70-foot sea creature, believed to be extinct for more than a million years.
He however was forced to confront his fears to save some colleagues and his ex wife who were trapped in a sunken deep-sea submersible, which had been part of an international undersea observation program...
The deep sea submersible with 3 crew on board which had started out as a pretty successful deep sea exploration project had been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific Ocean...
With time running out the director of the project, visionary Chinese oceanographer Dr Zhang (Winston Chao) heads to Thailand to retrieve and get the help from the unwilling expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Statham)...
He manages to save those in the stuck submersible but with the cost of yet another sacrifice... there was yet another heated argument which Suyin, Dr Zhang's daughter accused him of leaving people behind..
Just as they were arguing if they should expose their discovery of the living fossil or keep the secret of ocean, Suyin's daughter Meiying had the shock of her life while playing in the lower level of the laboratory... When the prehistoric 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon came face to face with her and bit the glass windows leaving teeth marks as evidence...
Now the team, Suyin and Jonas must confront this threat to save everyone and come face to face with the greatest and largest predator of all time...
My opinion.. Oh yes, seldom has a movie been able to get such strong reactions out of me... it is really terrifying at certain areas, shocking at some, sad and funny at others... and nail biting action and suspense all the way... what else can you expect from a movie starring Jason Statham... And well.. yeah.. I highly recommend it!!!
