Some Aesop Fables reminders...

I have been reading Aesop's fables since I was a little kid.. and can so totally relate to his fables as there are just so many good morals and lessons to be learnt..

Aesop was said to be a slave as well as a storyteller. He lived in ancient Greece between 620 and 564 BCE. His favorite story to tell was a fable. A fable is a very short story with a moral, or a lesson to teach.

Among some of his famous fables are well, the Fox and the Sour Grapes..., and well lesser known ones such as the Gnat and the Bull and the Mother and the Wolf...

Am resharing these stories as I think many of us come across these kind of people in our lives.... hahaha...

Lets start with the Fox and the Sour Grapes...

One day, a fox saw a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine along the branches of a tree. The grapes looked so juicy, and the Fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them.

The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but in vain.

Finally, he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.

"What a fool I am," he said. "Here I am tiring myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for."

And with that, he walked away very scornfully.

There are many who pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach.

The next story is of the Gnat and the Bull

A Gnat flew over the field buzzing pretty loudly for so small a creature and settled on the tip of one of the horns of a Bull.

After having rested a short time, he got ready to fly away again.

Before he left, he apologized to the Bull for having used his horn for a resting place.

"You must be very glad to have me go now," he said.

"It's all the same to me," replied the Bull. "I did not even know you were there."

We often think of ourselves of greater importance than what our friends think of us. The smaller the mind the greater the conceit.

Lastly, there is the story of the Mother and the Wolf

A hungry Wolf was prowling around a cottage at the edge of a village, when he heard a child crying in the house. Then he heard the Mother's voice say:
"Hush, child, hush! Stop your crying, or I will give you to the Wolf!"

Surprised but happy at the possibility to get a delicious meal, the Wolf sat down under an open window, expecting any moment to have the child handed out to him.

But though the little one continued to fret, the Wolf waited all day in vain.

Then, toward nightfall, he heard the Mother's voice again as she sat down near the window to sing and rock her baby to sleep.

"There, child, there! The Wolf shall not get you. No, no! Daddy is watching and Daddy will kill him if he should come near!"

Just then the Father came home, and the Wolf ran away to  save himself..

Do not believe everything you hear.

Hehe.. so that is all for now.. do you know anyone who fits into these people's characteristics... I know some for sure...
