Tween dramas....

I have a tween. A little girl who has so many multiple personalities that she beats Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde hands down.. You can never tell which of her personality would be popping out...In my opinion, and I am sure many parents can attest to, a tween's  multiple personalities can range anywhere from 1 year old up 60 years old, some times so much so I find myself getting confused as if who is the mother and who is the child... LOL…

Let's take into count some of the personalities my sometimes sweet, sometimes horrid daughter has in her....She is 11 years old on her way to becoming 12, exactly like Britney Spear's song... "Not a girl, not yet a woman.."

There are times when she can really act like a baby. After all , my daughter is the youngest in the family when it comes to her siblings, and also when compared to her first cousins, she is also the youngest...

So there are times when she will act with her cuddly self, making goo goo gaa gaa sounds, hug her teddy bears and all, and make a HUGE fuss over little mosquito bites, scrapes or scratches she finds on herself... (and on other times, imagine.. I got so furious at one time and I caned her and she just gave me a mutinous look without any tears).. I guess this would be her early childhood personality....

Then there are times she will act like a cat, crawl on all fours, nudge your body with her head and pretend to meow or even purr...I know, I know, she probably just copied her pet cats... but that can be funny and cute at times...

Then there will be the time she can be the most sweetest, adorable little girl you will ever meet. She loves to snuggle and give kisses. She will drop little messages, drawings and so on to show you how much she loves you.

Then there is little Miss Know It All who seems to just know everything. Yeah, really... Whatever you tell her she will just tell you "I know" and gives you her most disbelieving look..

Of course, you have to meet the Little Miss Tantrum around as well...She may look the same but she will be glaring daggers at you...and if looks can kill, we would be dead by then... This probably happens when she has asked for something but have been refused for what so ever reason. She can stomp around the whole house and make you think an elephant is running amok in your house.. It can also happen if she got out of bed on the wrong side early in the morning.... so beware.

Little Miss Mature is a young woman who knows how to carries herself. She can do the things you ask her to do with maturity and engages in conversation with adults in a way that makes you think you were talking to another adult.

One of my favorite personality that pops out from my tween would have to be the BFF / This is the 'woman' who will accompany me to makeovers, chit chats over Starbucks coffee, listen to my problems, sides with me on most issues and help in any way possible. The BFF doesn’t come around very often. She will give you a shoulder to cry on and even wipe your tears. She has even woke me up when I dozed off in the living room and held my hand and led me to the bedroom and then tuck me to bed.....

However, we must not forget the Miss Drama Queen personality as well...She does not need to be hurt to believe the world is ending. She only needs to be around. Can’t find her pencil? End of world. She needs to get that paper or she will be in deep trouble...Please note, the Drama Queen can instantly transform into Little Miss Tantrum without any warning or notice.

Then there is Miss Rude who can just up and scold, tell off or admonish her parents as if she was the parent instead. This has happened a few times but well, as parents, my husband and I try to curb Miss Rude from appearing too often or risk being considered useless parents to others.

Then there is also a few other personalities that do pop up sometime or other but I cannot think of them at the moment...

However I have realized that tweens can be moody, over-dramatizing, self-centered, back-talking and condescending to parents. They can, of course, also be mature, affectionate and delightful, but at their worst they’re a cross between the most challenging aspects of toddlers and teens.

This happens because of your tween’s developing body being flooded by hormones, her brain is rewiring, she finds a need to discover herself and her place in the world takes precedence over the other things she values (like her family and schoolwork), and she sometimes can’t acknowledge how much she still loves and needs you, because she's working hard to feel "grown up" and independent.

When adolescence looms, kids naturally feel compelled to start going their own way trying to figure out who they are separate from you. Girls tend to get more dramatic and overreact, while boys alternate between withdrawing and being defiant.

And then, of course, there are all those outside influences, cell phones and texting, for example, tweens are developing closer bonds with their peer groups and, as a result, pushing away from their parents at earlier ages.

And I guess, sadly, there are TV drama shows and books aimed at this age group often make us adults out clueless people... sighh... do they not know that we have been tweens once upon a time as well.. and have consume more salt, sugar, spice etc... then our tweens....
