Hotel Review: Hotel Grand Central, Singapore

To be really honest, when I first heard that we were going to be putting up at the Hotel Grand Central in Singapore, I had mixed feelings. I was delighted that the hotel was at the Orchard Road shopping district area but knowing what I heard all about Hotel Grand Central....my heart sank... after all, the Hotel Grand Central is a very old hotel, opened in 1968

We arrived at Changi late at about 9pm, and had gotten a taxi from Changi directly to the hotel... my co travelers and I were all quiet, probably nursing the same thoughts as I did...about the hotel, or probably because we were also very exhausted from the day and traveling...

Among many reviews I read before was "Corridors smell of Chinese medicine and some rooms are a little musty, stale" and well, since our stay here was sponsored, it wasn't polite to bitch about it or complain too much, right?!

So we wearily trudged up the few steps to the lobby which was quite small, but my opinion began to change because despite the lobby being small, it was clean, did not smell stale or of medicinal herbs as it was supposed to according to other people's review, and probably because of the extensive renovation the hotel underwent in 2015 itself...

The staff were smartly uniformed and the seating area was plush and comfy. It was quite welcoming and pretty...and definitely exceeded my expectations....

We were quickly checked in and given our key cards. However when asked whether if I wanted a double bed or a king sized bed, I replied that I would prefer the king sized bed and I somehow got a totally different floor from my co travelers....

Now that got me slightly panicky...

I took the elevator up to my room and upon arrival on my floor, one of the lights were flickering... making me even more worried...

The corridor was however nicely carpeted, clean and quiet and no weird smells or stale smells or such....

Nervously I rang the room bell, knocked on the door and muttered a 'salam' as a sign of respect in case there were any 'thing' in the room....and wearily set down my luggage as I slotted the key card into its place for electricity... and ......

Oh wow.....the sight of my room definitely exceeded my expectations...I was suddenly transported to a 5 star hotel room.... there was a very clean and super comfy king sized bed there thick duvet with ample pillows for utmost comfort... the lighting was just gorgeous....and chic...

There was an LCD TV mounted on the wall, a nice working table, an arm chair, and everything was brand new....

Just as I was chilling I received a WhatsApp message from one of my co travelers that send me giggling.... She said,"The outside of the hotel did looked like a prostitutes den but the rooms are pretty amazing here....." LMFAO

I turn on the 39-inch flat screen internet ready LED TV to be surprised by the welcome message there.... and well the smart TV had cable channels as well as international music channels, you tube channels and so on.... I fell asleep being lulled by some French radio channel...

My room came with a mini-bar and complimentary Tea/ Coffee and there was a hot water/cold water filter dispenser mounted on the wall for easy usage. I was definitely impressed...

Oh yes, the room also came with high speed broadband internet access connection, hangers, iron & ironing board, a safe and bedroom slippers ...

And I have to say I loved the toiletries and amenities here, they were definitely premium toiletries infused with fresh Neroli... I even brought them back home with me....

There are ample clean and fluffy towels as well as a hair dryer....

And I loved the shower... both hand held and the rain shower... the water pressure and ease of temperature control was really good too..

Early next morning had me rushing up to the roof top where I admired the sunrise with a view of the Marina Bay Sands and Singapore Eye....

Yes, the Hotel Grand Central has a lovely swimming pool on the roof top which is clean and nice too....

Tadaa... can't resist posing my traveling teddy /traveling companion Impian here....at the pool...

And another picture with Impian at the seating area in the lobby

They do have breakfast served here but somehow when we checked in they told me and my co travelers that we did not have breakfast, so I cannot tell you how the breakfast is here...

There is a meeting room here in the hotel that can probably seat up to 20 people.....

And there is also a cosy little business centre here at the hotel

And for fitness buffs, not to worry, there is a mini gym here so you do not have to miss out on your work outs......

Overall, the hotel did exceed my expectations especially when it came to the rooms, but the facilities are just not too bad...

But then again what matters most is the room when you stay in a hotel right... so I can safely recommend Hotel Grand Central to you if you are looking for a lovely room that does not cost a bomb especially with Singaporean exchange rates now in the heart of Orchard Shopping District...

The hotel is walking distance, just about 400 metres from Somerset MRT (313@Somerset and Orchard Central Mall) and 650 metres away from Dhoby Ghaut MRT stations.

It is a 10-minute drive from Bugis Village, Chinatown or Little India. Singapore Art Museum and Duty Free Shopping: DFS Galleria Scotts Road are 1.1 km away, while Changi Airport is 21 km away.

Gadgets that are being created today are in a position to totally change our lives as there is a lot that you can achieve with them. Audio visual stimulation gadgets have been created so as to give a relief to stress and other situations that can make us less productive. There are those who claim that when using the gadgets, their need for things like coffee is greatly decreased. These gadgets are created for all except a small group of people with some conditions.

  42. Nearly everybody rates the bar and eatery profoundly - both are shocking. WiFi is accessible all through the hotel and there is a lot of vehicle leaving. The rooms are all around designated with offices like level screen TVs, pant presses and tea/espresso making offices all through. www.hotelgods.com
