Merapoh Forest Run 2016

So yours truly was at the Concorde Kuala Lumpur where the press conference for the upcoming Merapoh Forest Run 2016 (MFR2016) was held by the Women's Sports and Fitness Foundation Malaysia (WSFFM) on the 3rd of September 2016, so if you have not have anything planned, mark your dates!!!

It is a challenging trail run at Sungai Relau , Merapoh , a 2nd gateway to Taman Negara, which is located in Kuala Lipis, Pahang. It’s about 244km from Kuala Lumpur.

Yes, it will be another rainforest run where you can challenge yourself as well as enjoy our million of years old pristine rainforest...It is definitely one of the world's oldest rainforest and so you should not miss out the opportunity to explore the sights, flora and fauna here....

So the MFR2016  is set to be an annual event following on the success of the MFR2015 held last October 2015..

Accordingto Kol Bersekutu (PA) Puan Sri To' Puan Datuk Shariffa Sabrina bt Syed Akil, who is the President of the WSFFM, MFR2016 is a marathon competition that will test both the participants mental and physical strength because of the undulating and challenging track. However, the track will also be a very satisfying one as participants can enjoy and appreciate the wonders of mother nature in the million of years old rainforest....

Puan Sri Sabrina said that among the reasons MFR2016 is being held is to educate the community on a healthy lifestyle through exercise while learning to appreciate out tropical rainforest. Besides all of that, MFR2016 will also be promoting Taman Negara Pahang, Sungai Relau and Merapoh where there are hundreds of unexplored caves and mysteries untold....

Puan Sri Sabrina hopes that there will be a lot of professional athletes, amateur athletes as well as nature lovers who will be participating in the MFR2016 as well as supports from corporate companies from monetary sponsorship, prizes and so on....

YBhg Dato Sri Mohamed Nazir Meraslam, the Project Director of MFR2016 who is the Treasurer for WSFFM gave the media and those present all the information on the MFR....

The Bukit Seraya (Seraya Hill) Lookout Point is one of the many hills that the road crosses along the way. There is a concrete tower built on the summit of the hill beside the road, and you have to first climb a flight of steps to reach the top of the hill and then onwards to the top of the tower, which is 3 stories high to enjoy a splendid view of the hills and mountains of the western side of Taman Negara in Pahang, and also amazing views of the nearby forest and tree crowns, with big seraya trees (Shorea curtisii) being the most common and conspicuous emergent tree in the surrounding  hill dipterocarp forest. On a nice clear day, if you are lucky, you can make out the Gunung Tahan in the distance.

You can take the opportunity to feed the Kelah, the king of fresh water fish in Malaysia at the Kelah Sanctuary located at Kuala Juram, just about 13km from Wildlife Office. This is a must-do activity in for those who visit Taman Negara Sungai Relau as the opportunity to watch the fish come out for the pallets and test your skills to touch and hold the fish with your bare hands. It is said to be an extraordinary experience and definitely a must-do!

Among some of sponsors for MFR2016 include Revive (isotonic drink) and Bleu Mineral Water, Ultron (as the official t shirt), Tanah Aina Resort and Mutiara Taman Negara Pahang (holiday packages) and as you can see there are some really attractive prizes to be won from each category....
