Lantern Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

I was half sourcing hotels for a school gathering as well as looking up and checking out new places when I happen upon the Lantern Hotel. I was immediately attracted and wanted to see more of it...

Tucked in a very convenient area, the Lantern Hotel is located smack right in middle of  the busiest part of Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur. If you are familiar with Chinatown, this little gem of a hotel is located on top of the Hong Leong bank there… and very close to where the yummiest Mou Tak Ding Lo Han Ko drinks are sold…You can immediately tell from the bright red lanterns on the ceiling welcoming you… but if you think this hotel is tacky or sleazy, you are so wrong, this place is really clean, charming and clean!!!

This very charming 2-star hotel can be easily accessed from the Kuala Lumpur International airport which is just about 55 km away. It is also very accessible via the Pasar Seni / Central Market  LRT Train Station which is just about 0.3 Km / 4 mins walk.  And likewise if you are local, took a bus and stopped at Puduraya which is just about 0.4 Km /5 mins walk….Heaven knows I’ve walked through those areas countless times…

At Lantern Hotel, the service is pretty ok and superior facilities can make your trip to Kuala Lumpur something to remember.

Some of the features of the hotel include 24-hour front desk, express check-in/check-out, luggage storage, Wi-Fi in public areas, laundry service.

The Lantern Hotel is  a stylishly renovated four-storey building, situated on top of the Hong Leong Bank in Petaling Street. It has an industrial-meets-tropical design touch, and I found it pretty bright and airy there.

I will have to say that for the price you are paying, you are getting a good deal with the comfort and amenities of a boutique hotel, as well as the funky culture and friendly atmosphere of a hotel.

You really should check out their chill-out terrace which is amazingly unique  overlooking Jalan Petaling. There is also a mini bar/cafĂ© where guests can buy cakes, drinks and coffee/latte/cappuccino, etc.

Lantern Hotel is home to 46 bedrooms. All are simply but  tastefully furnished and many even provide such comforts as WiFi (complimentary) on the lower floors, non smoking rooms, air conditioning, balcony/terrace.

This is the view from one of the windows that is opened out to the bustling Petaling Street below....from the 3rd floor...

All Lantern Hotel rooms come with air conditioning, door card access key, free mineral water, high quality mattresses, fresh linen, and free towels.

Except for the dorms, all rooms have their own private bathroom with amazing rain shower and you do not have to worry about toiletries as they provide you with generous bottles of shampoo, conditioner and bath gel to use…

For those who fancy, some of their rooms, located on the upper floors have 32" LCD screen TVs with Astro!

The cost pod-like dorm beds are all equipped with individual reading light, power point and luggage locker with free padlock.

If you need, hair dryers, hair straighteners, irons and ironing boards can be borrowed from the reception for free!

Your stay at the Lantern Hotel is inclusive of a yummy free breakfast as well...

And as I mentioned, being now pretty well verse about that area, Lantern Hotel is in a very good location ...  You can go to: China Town (0.1 Km / 2 min walk), Central Market (0.3 Km / 4 min walk), LRT station (0.3Km / 4 mins walk ) and main Rapid bus stop area to be able to access to many other places… all within a few minutes walk...

A great location, comfortable and clean beds with considerably good facilities for the price you are paying....(well, do not expect 5 star amenities if you are paying for a 2 star.....) , great breakfast and a very affordable price.... what more can anyone want.....Personally, I give it a thumbs up!!
