3 different lion dances all at the same time at Sogo KL

Yesterday I was at Sogo. My husband had something to take care of around the area and when I saw the lion dance head on the ground, I told him to go ahead to his exasperation. I definitely wanted to stick around and watch this... I have never seen pink lion dance before.... and do you know what? I still did not see them in action even after an hour standing there.... LOL....

This was what that happened... Shortly after my husband went off, another lion dance troupe arrived. It was the well known KL troupe Kok Ngai Lion Dance Club troupe.  They started the show first with two lion dance and a God of Prosperity at the back entrance and the lions went on their tour around the mall.... huhuhu

In the meantime, the pink troupe which I which is the Hong Teck Dragon and Lion Dance troupe were pretty interesting when they produced an absolutely adorable looking God of Prosperity mascot AND also the Fuk Luk Sau, also known as the three wise men or deities.......

The Chinese character Fuk means blessings of good luck, health and happiness . This is the wise man that is often depicted holding either a scroll, or a child. There is a popular belief that Fuk is the personification of planet Jupiter, with all its associated energy of good luck and auspiciousness. The child is there to symbolize the transmission of this good luck to future generations, and the scroll can be perceived as the importance of knowledge/learning. 

The meaning of Luk character in imperial China was official's salary . It goes without saying that the energy of it is stability, fame and success, as well as financial abundance. Luk is often depicted holding either a ru yi , symbol of power and authority, or a golden ingot, a popular wealth symbol . 

Sau means longevity . This is the wise old man that is usually depicted with a very high forehead and a warm smile on his face. He is holding a staff, as he is very old - thus the symbol of longevity! - as well as a peach (considered a symbol of immortality). 

And that was not all the Hong Teck troupe had up their sleeves. We were treated to a  drum performance which left a few people simply amazed...

Just as the drums sounded, hundreds of firecrackers were set off .... Gosh .. I so did not notice that until they started off .....

It was clearly the main drummer whose performance was awe inspiring as he took control of beating 5 drums.... and signalling his team mates when to clash their cymbals

Once the drum performance was over, I was still waiting expectantly for the lion dance performance but they seem to pack up and move... Disappointed, I decided to follow suit and followed them to the front entrance where a huge crowd was gathered and no wonder... 

A couple of totally different lion dance troupe was taking on the stage there. It was my first time watching them and they were truly amazing. 

The lions action was flawlessly smooth and realistic. And I soon enough learned the reason. These was the famed Kun Seng Keng Dragon and  Lion Dance association all the way from Muar, Johor and they are the reigning champion for the Genting International Lion Dance Competition....and have a myriad of other titles on their belts...

Then there was some photo opportunity with the management and directors of Sogo KL and some VIPs...

Well, like I said, I never got around watching the Hong Teck  pink lions in action as they moved on for the next dance on the 5th floor and I was too tired to follow ... also, I had already seen one of the most amazing lion dance show ever, so , I guess that was enough for the day....

Each of the troupes are special and amazing in their own way.....and I was blessed and happy I had the opportunity to witness this.....
