Malacca Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary

During my last trip to Melaka, just before heading back home to Malacca Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary or better known as the Taman Rama Rama Melaka in Ayer Keroh... My daughter wanted to see the animals there....and it had been ages since I last visited the place...

It is sure a short distance to drive around until you reach the sanctuary which is just a little after the Philea resort...but the great news is that there are ample parking space there to park your car...

The Malacca (Melaka) Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary (N2 17.993 E102 18.692) is located at Lebuh Ayer Keroh, 75450 Melaka, right just after the Ayer Keroh Toll Plaza from PLUS Highway.

They are open everyday from 8.30am to 5.30pm. The entrance fee is MYR18.00 for adult and MYR12.00 for children...  inclusive GST...

Just as you enter the Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary, you will see the first aviary there...with love birds making noises and even making out... ehemmm..... hehhehehe

Nicely landscaped and about 11 acres big, the Malacca Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary is home to a huge variety of animals, from insects to reptiles, and birds to mammals...

You will also come across pretty blue and yellow birds...I do not know what they are called... they certainly look pretty unique...

Then there are these Spiderman Lizards... at least that is what I think I saw on the intro... they are pretty colourful from shades of red and blue and green... and I never seen the likes of these anywhere else yet...

Malacca Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary is also home to more than 20 species of butterflies, including the Black and White Helen (Papilio nephelus), Malayan Birdwing (Troides) and the Raja Brooke’ Birdwing, named after Sir James Brooke (the King of Sarawak). The rare black and electric-green Raja Brooke’s Birdwing can only be found in Malaysia and Indonesia.

The butterflies here can be pretty friendly and they will come flitting over to you out of curiosity ... See the above and below picture of my husband and his new winged pals....

From the Butterfly Aviary, we made our way to the Koi garden which is a gorgeous place with the sound of falling water and thousands of koi swimming all around in the little streams and ponds there....

You can even see them swimming in rows.... it was certainly a sight to behold...

Don't miss out seeing the crocodiles and alligators on your way to the reptile walk.....

Some of them like this black guy was certainly HUGE....

At the Reptile Walk, I was quite bowled over by the many snake species there with vipers, anacondas, whip snakes, etc  ....  and the blood python as seen in the picture above....

...to the albino cobra.........

.....and his majesty... the King Cobra....... one of the deadliest snakes around....

There was this Giant Tree frog perched on the welcome signage that almost seemed like part of the props.......since he was so quiet there....

Taking a closer look at these reptiles on display, especially the various species of snakes, definitely opened my eyes more and left my daughter and me awestruck.

And well, there are many photogenic lizards who are more then willing to pose for a picture or two for you... LOL

So there you have it... and they do also have a photobooth if you would like to take a picture with a python, an iguana or one of those macaws......

It is a lovely place to bring the kiddies and visit to learn more about reptiles and other animals...
