BIO-OIL, THE SCAR SPECIALIST OFFERS WOMEN SOLUTIONS FOR THEIR SCARS

Almost all of us have scars that we obtain from life which will serve as memories and lessons; some good and some painful ones, but well "scars" are always quite painful....

What is a scar? There are two different main kind of scars…

1)    A scar is a permanent patch of skin that grows over a wound. It forms when your body starts to heals itself after you get a cut, scrape, burn or so on...

You can also get scars from surgery that cuts through the skin, infections like chickenpox, or skin conditions like acne. Scars are quite thicker, pinker or shinier, than the normal tone of your skin.

Scars can fade over time but never go away completely. If the way an external  scar looks bothers you, various treatments might minimize it. These can include surgical revision, dermabrasion, laser treatments, injections, chemical peels,  creams and oils...

2)    Then there are internal scars usually caused by a traumatic experience in which you find yourself struggling with upsetting emotions and  frightening memories. Or you may feel numb, disconnected, and unable to trust other people.

When bad things happen, it can take a while(or even never) to get over the pain and feel safe again.

These are caused by:-
  • Emotional and psychological trauma can be caused by single-blow, one-time events, such as a horrible accident, a natural disaster, or a violent attack.
  • Trauma in childhood can also have a severe and long-lasting effect. When childhood trauma is not resolved, this fundamental sense of fear and helplessness carries over into adulthood, setting the stage for further trauma.

Childhood trauma results from anything that disrupts a child’s sense of safety and security, including:
  • An unstable or unsafe environment
  • Divorce
  • Serious illness
  • Intrusive medical procedures
  • Sexual, physical, or verbal abuse
  • Domestic violence
  • Neglect
  • Bullying

And even when you finally feel better, you tend to be haunted from time to time by painful memories or emotions.

Trust me, I have been in that position and I know very well how it feels like...and sometimes when the pain gets too much from all the internal scars , we tend to create external scars ourselves in the form of self harming....just to treat the gaping invisible wound/ scar in our mind and heart....

The only way you can try to heal it is by learning to love yourself and accept your own flaws (after all, if you can't even love yourself or accept yourself, who else can??) and even that, these scars can come back to haunt you from time to time...There is no real escape except to face it head on ...

Anyway yours truly was over at the swanky Ciao Ristorante to check out the launch of the  Bio-Oil campaign themed ‘My Scar My Story’ which targets to offer women inspiration and solutions to their scars via a microsite  www.myscarmystory.com.my

This online platform aims to brings Malaysian women together to share their scar story and solutions to their problems, as a way of inspiring women who are undergoing emotional distress due to their scars.

Internal scars can cause psychological issues, but well, so does the external scars that mar our bodies or skin.....

A research revealed that one in two women suffers ongoing psychological issues as a result of scars with the majority (56%) considering themselves ‘abnormal’ due to their scars. This could lead to other more serious issues such as depression and anti-social behaviours.

“The survey clearly demonstrates that scarring is an issue we regularly need to address. We hope through this campaign, women will learn the many ways of coping with scars proactively instead of just hiding their scars from the eyes of the public. We are confident that ‘My Scar My Story’ will offer real life stories that will serve as an inspiration to many who are suffering both emotionally and physically from scars,” said Ms Low Hooi Wan, Bio-Oil’s Division Manager of Malaysia and Singapore.

Bio-Oil has also collaborated with Dr Nazirin Ariffin, a renowned dermatologist from Pantai Hospital to offer professional advice and weekly tips on scar management on
the microsite.

Dr Nazirin noted that support for patients with scarring extends far beyond wound care. Providing optimal advice and guidance to patients as well as managing their expectations will reduce patients’ emotional distress.

According to Dr Nazirin, the common causes of scars among her patients include skin problems such as acne, eczema and psoriasis; second degree skin burns and other injuries caused by accidents, cuts and falls.

“Most of the scars look bad in the beginning but its appearance will improve over time with good wound care, some topical treatment such as an oil-based ointment and intake of proper nutrition,” said Dr Nazirin.

Bio-Oil has been clinically proven to help improve the appearance of all types of scars, be it old or new.

Bio-Oil contains plant extracts such as Chamomile, Lavender, Rosemary and Calendula oils, together with Vitamins A & E and the breakthrough ingredient-PurCellin Oil™.

Unlike regular oils, PurCellin Oil™ delivers the ingredients into the skin without leaving a sticky and greasy feeling.

In a clinical trial that was conducted in proDERM Institute for Applied Dermatological Research, Hamburg, Germany, 92% of the subjects showed an improvement in the appearance of their scars just after 8 weeks

Continuous use of Bio-Oil can help minimize, reduce and lighten scars.

For best results: Massage onto the affected area in circular motion twice daily for a minimum of 3 months. Bio-Oil should not be used on broken skin.

This  2-month campaign will end on December 31st with selection of the three best scar stories where winners will get to enjoy a Luxury Retreat Package at a 5-star resort for two worth of up to RM10,000 and a consultative session with Dr Nazirin Ariffin.

There will also be weekly prizes for the five most inspiring stories of the week. Sounds like a lot of fun right... so what are you waiting for......
