How to "sahur" the correct way for lasting energy the whole day....

Most Malaysians grow up with Horlicks® , 'The Growth Nourisher’, yours truly included... Horlicks isa nutritional drink made from wheat, milk and malted barley and which contains essential vitamins and minerals for wholesome nourishment of the entire family.

GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Sdn Bhd (GSK), recently announced the launch of the Horlicks Ramadan Campaign, #SahurDenganHorlicks, to try to educate both parents and their kids on the importance of practicing a healthy fasting ritual and starting their day with a nutritious Sahur. This campaign is also a part of the ongoing efforts by Horlicks to raise awareness on a healthy and nutritious breakfast which is the most important meal of a day.

Horlicks chooses this approach to focus on “sahur”, a meal consumed by Muslims before dawn. This is because "sahur is an important meal to provide nutrition to sustain energy levels throughout the day during this fasting period.... Many kids who just start to fast for the first time can find it  physically taxing at  first. It is therefore essential to educate the kids to observe religious discipline in a healthy and right manner through their food intake so they are enable to maintain their energy level throughout the day. Kids at a tender age are going through a rapid growth and development process, a biological phase in which their body require the right nutrition to ensure the process will not be hindered.

Two servings of Horlicks will give an individual, adult or kid,  wholesome nutritional benefits as it contains more than 80% of the daily Reference Nutrient Intake (RNI) of Vitamin A, B1 and B2 and 72% of daily RNI of Zinc. It helps  supply important vitamins and minerals to support the overall nutritional needs of your kids...

Sahur with the goodness of Horlicks
Drinking a cup of Horlicks during Sahur will provide growing kids with a great  source of dietary fibre. Fibre can help to support their digestive system as fasting can often increase the stomach’s acidity level. Dietary fibre shortage will cause a burning sensation due to the acid build up. The right amount of dietary fibre will offset the acidity level in the stomach as well as delaying hunger by creating the feeling of fullness.

Haven't you always heard complains from the kids when you get them to fast that they have low energy levels and that they always feel sleepy during the fasting month? With Horlicks, you probably can get over this problem.....

Horlicks complements the nutritional value needed as it is a rich source of dietary fibre. At the same time, Horlicks is also fortified with Calcium, Vitamin D, folic acids, multi-vitamins and minerals that are needed to help the kids stay alert in school throughout the fasting period and support their overall growth and development.

This is why  parents like you and me  should select more nutritious choices for Sahur and avoid food that carries less  nutritional values.

The Horlicks official Facebook page will be sharing interesting tips for Ramadan and introduce useful Ramadan/ Hari Raya recipes for mothers to prepare quick and easy treats for their children. Everyone can share their innovative Sahur recipes by uploading photographs onto their social media platforms using the hashtag #SahurdenganHorlicks.

You can also submit your children’s interesting fasting experiences on the Facebook page. The social media contest will be running throughout the Ramadan month and the best entries will be chosen weekly. Five would be selected in total and they will win 12 packs of Horlicks Chocolate Malt. The contest runs from 18 June to 16 July 2015.
