A stay at the Hutong Inn Zaoyuanju Hotel in Beijing

Our second hotel/ inn in Beijing was the Hutong Inn Zaoyuanju Hotel off the Goulodajie street. It was not hard to get there...Use the subway line 2  and exit at Goulodajie station, go to exit G ( follow the signs for line 8 and the Chinese medicine center) when you exit the subway walk straight ahead, you will pass a Chinese medicine center/pharmacy, a very fancy car repair place (at least that is what I think it is), a grocery shop and a convenience shop and even a McDonald's take the 2nd left into the hutong, the inn is about 200 yards on the left.

The  hotel/inn is quite conveniently situated and is just a few minutes walk from the mysterious Bell Tower and Drum Tower. And I learn that situated in the west is the Lama Temple, GuoZijian and HuangChenggen; north is Beihai park, Jingshan park, the Forbidden city, Tiananmen square and Chang An street; south of Ditan park, and it closes to the Olympic park.

While staying there, on the last day, my daughter and I walked from the hotel all the way to Beihai Park and Prince Gong's Mansion.... it definitely is walking distance... though maybe a little far... hehehe

There are 80 rooms here  with AC, fully ensuite, colour television supposedly with international Chanel like: HBO, Star Movies, ESPN, MTV, Discovery, BBC, CNN etc but I can't seem to get any during my stay...., tea/coffee making facilities, electronic safe, slippers,  broadband high speed internet connections, Wi-Fi, hair dryer and  supposedly room service.

However be reminded that this is a shoe string traveller's hotel/ hostel. However they even have amenities for sale if you need them.. such as toothbrushes, and even umbrellas! Our double bed room was clean, comfortable with an ensuite western bathroom, much better then the one we stayed at before this. It was cleaned daily.

The reception staff  were  a mix bunch, there are helpful and friendly staff and also unfriendly and unhelful staff. Only one or two of them can speak English but do not expect good English here.

Upon checking in, you are required to pay a 200 yuan deposit for your room which will be returned at the when you check out, perhaps this is because they do have some chargeable amenities and snacks even condoms etc in the room ...

Overall, I would give them a 3 our of 5 stars for the room comfort and stay... it is pretty comfortable , clean and basic, and for the RM123 (Malaysian Ringgit) I paid over www.expedia.com.my , very reasonably priced...

And I liked that there are convenience shops, restaurants (even HALAL ones) and pharmacies nearby and the walk from the subway to the hotel is not too far.....
