Unboxing the Huawei Mate 8

I know I did a write up on the Huawei Mate 8 recently, and I wished that I could just own it... and somehow that dream became reality thanks to the Maxis Zerolution program which Maxis customers can own the latest Smartphones with 0 upfront payment.. no need cash or credit card, and no interest...

It did not quite occur to me that I would get this phone at all and it was really such an impromptu purchase as well...

Ok, what happened was I was happily using my Xiaomi Redmi phone for a while now and while it was slightly cracked because I accidently dropped it a couple of times, I still loved that phone for the camera, and the functions. I found it a real value for money...and no, I did not change my phone just because of the crack...

The phone started giving me problems by blacking out every time I received a call or made a call... and that was quite annoying as well, but I beared with it....

The last straw came when I found that I could not charge my phone at all one fine morning....I could not charge it on any of the chargers, the car charger or even the power bank...

I then decided to take it to the service centre to rectify the issue.

I was told I have to pay RM116 for the power pin area, and well, if they were to repair this, I also had to pay another RM450+ for the cracked LCD screen and I have not even began to tell them the problem with incoming or outgoing calls..... I bet the bill would be a hefty RM600-700 at very least...

I gave up!!! I actually bought the phone from Maxis just over a year ago and it only costed me RM99 then with the Maxis package...and I had to pay more then RM600 for all that??!!

Finally I decided to just head over back to the Maxis Centre to see what I can find. I have known about the Zerolution with MaxisONE Plan and I dd not quite know how to go about it.. so I went to check if I qualified and I was really relieved to know I did....

Browsing through the brochure, I was quite undecided if I wanted to go for the Samsung Galaxy A7 and pay a monthly RM63,the OPPO R7s and pay a monthly RM59, or the Huawei G8 and pay a monthly RM48....

And I was also trying to compare specs and all when I saw the Huawei Mate 8 was also on the Maxis Zerolution Plan and I only had to pay a monthly of RM80!!

It sounded like my dreams came true and it was also affordable for me to own it since it was just RM80 per month, (not including the phone bill of course).. and so, what else?? Sign up for it lah....and tadaaaa..... I became the proud owner of a Huawei Mate 8

To be honest, the phone has been unboxed before at the shop, but let's just go through this again so those of you who are curious can know what is in the box....

The side of the box... and well, as you can see with the 4 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM, it seems like my dream is fulfilled.... before this I had so much problems with memory space , apps and photos...

And yes, I decided to go for the Champagne Gold color phone..For those of you who are interested, the Huawei Mate 8 comes in 4 lovely colours through the two variants, with the Standard variant offering moonlight silver and space grey, and the Premium variant offering champagne gold and mocha brown...

The first view of the phone in the box....

The slenderness of the phone. I love the feel of the phone. It is is compact and slim and fits well in my grip, though some people like my husband might prefer smaller phones...

This is the back of the phone... and the fingerprint sensor. To activate that thumbprint sensor, you have to touch the sensor several times with different areas of your chosen finger before it is recorded... and then... it is just such a breeze activating the phone...thought you also have a choice to activate it with a password..

I can activate it with just a touch of my finger, but my daughter who knows my password activates my phone with the password...

The screen is made from 6-inch FHD screen with negative LCD ultra-fast diamond glass cutting technology. With this technology, the 2.5D diamond cut glass and the body is made from aerospace-grade aluminum...

What comes in the box with the phone....there are three boxes underneath the phone...

The long and biggest box contains a free flip phone cover which is of great quality, the user manual and the little smart envelope with a gold seal containing the warranty card..

One of the other box contains the adapter for charging your phone...

A closer look.....

The other box comes with a USB wire and a earphone/ hands free..

And taa daaa... this is how my Huawei Mate 8 looks tucked in the phone cover. I think the phone comes with a ready tempered glass  screen protector too..Just superb since I can hardly find screen protector for this phone or even a phone cover yet as it is still quite new...

I have been using this Huawei Mate 8 for a couple of days and I am definitely in love with it... The battery lasts so much longer.

Everyone around me knows I am a very heavy user.. as my smart phone covers a lot of area for me from updating my social media, chatting with friends, watching my iFlix, playing games, reading books etc...etc... and the battery can last me the whole day...Normally my Vivo XPlus Max and Red Mi can last me like just about 6 hours...

Another thing I truly admire about the phone is that the phone does not heat up like the other phones... from Samsung, to Redmi/Xiaomi, ASUS and even my Vivo X5 Max, all of the phones I had would heat up after half and hour or an hour of heavy usage and they can get very hot to touch... I had my phone on iFlix and other apps for two to three hours and the phone is still amazingly cool to touch...

Huawei Mate 8 uses a Sony IMX298 16MP sensor module with an optical image stabilization camera module (OIS). The lens has an f2.0 aperture (pinhole size) which is quite good. The front camera uses an 8 Megapixel IMX179 Sony sensor, with an f2.4 lens and it’s been confirmed by Huawei that it is the exact same sensor used for Huawei P8 and the Nexus 6P. Huawei’s selfie features has a small control window to make sure that you are looking at the right place, you can use the fingerprint sensor at the back of the phone as a trigger to reduce  shakiness

This is because the Huawei Mate 8 supposedly has a state-of-the-art thermal design. With its innovative six layer thermal conductivity structure, the Mate 8’s thermal design allows for higher heat dissipation and lower power consumption. The DX19 thermal materials allow conductivity to be nine times higher than stainless steel, resulting in a phone with a cooler temperature. For example, after 30 minutes of gaming, the Mate 8’s temperature was 4.1°C, which is cooler than the iPhone 6s Plus.

One more feature I absolutely adore is the 'S' feature screenshot which can enable me to take a very very long screenshot. All I have to do is draw an 'S' on the screen and the phone automatically does a very long screenshot unless you tap on the phone to cut it where you want to cut it...

So my personal view on this phone... I LOVE this phone. It may have been an impulse buy but I did the right choice... and it is a great investment...

Anyway, for the Zerolution plan, you do not have to pay anything up front. ALl you have to do is pay for the phone over 24 monthly payments, charged to your postpaid bill.

You can also opt to join the annual upgrade program and pay an extra RM30-44 per month that can enable you to upgrade to a new phone every year. All you have to do is to return your phone in good working condition after your 12 months is up and you can get a new phone on the Zerolution plan.

You can always get insurance for the device with an additional RM23 per month...This comes in very handy to protect your device from screen cracks, accidental damage and theft...
