TNT is one of the world’s largest express delivery companies. On a daily basis, TNT delivers close to one million consignments ranging from documents and parcels to palletised freight. The company operates road and air transportation networks in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Americas.
At the recent 2014 TNT Charity Hunt, 200 Malaysians got together for a
good cause and raised a total of RM60,000 for the future leaders of tomorrow.
The annual charity motor hunt was created four years ago
and serves as an avenue for Malaysians
to connect on a deeper level with the less fortunate, through completing fun as
well as challenging challenges like treasure hunting and solving mind-boggling
clues.
Ms. Ngoh Siaw Ling, Human Resources Director of TNT Malaysia shared, “As
‘The People Network’, it is encouraging to see passionate Malaysians from various
backgrounds make time and come together for a greater purpose, to be part of
our noble initiative.”
“As the heart of one of our CSR pillars is to care for the urban poor,
this year’s TNT Charity Hunt collaborated with Community at Heart to continue
our efforts in supporting the underprivileged households,” added Ms. Ngoh.
The collaboration is a follow-through of the TNT-MyKasih initiative that
took place earlier this year, where TNT Malaysia contributed RM41,600 to the
“Love My Neighbourhood” food aid programme, providing support for 40 low-income
households from Pangsapuri Enggang, Bandar Kinrara.
Community At Heart is a non-profit organisation that has influenced the
lives of over 200 families in the last five years, empowering women and
children from underprivileged homes by being the beacon of hope in their lives,
providing enriching classes to lead them down a brighter path.
For this year’s charity hunt, TNT Malaysia contributed part of the funds
to provide the children of Pangsapuri Enggan with the right passage to receive
proper education through sponsoring transport, tuition fees, accessories, bags
and most importantly their meals, to name the least.
This decision follows a sad discovery from UNICEF, whereby it was found
that about 40 per cent of children under the age of 15 in Malaysia live in
poverty, and many of whom have been robbed the access to a proper education as
parents cannot afford school fees, transportation and the ancillary costs.
“At TNT, we believe that we hold the power to give back to society
through the right connections that we have. It is
our goal to break this cycle among the urban poor and provide these children with
the equal opportunity to receive the education and needs they truly deserve, as they are the key to our future,” said Ngoh.
The
TNT Charity Hunt is more than a social driven initiative as it requires teams to solve ‘Treasure Questions’, whereby participants were assigned to
purchase necessities for the homes, allowing them to leave behind
a personal touch towards this great cause.
As a result of this unique format, the children at Pangsapuri Enggan
were thrilled when the TNT team made a visit right after the Charity Hunt event,
to deliver the handpicked items by the participants.
“When TNT made the delivery to surprise the children during their
tuition session, the room was alit with smiles and laughter. It is always great
to see how the little things can make a huge difference,” said Ms. Margaret
Kogilavani, Community Program Director of Community At Heart.
“It is encouraging to see the needs of the children addressed as we often
struggle with sustaining the work that we do. The continuous dedication and care that TNT has demonstrated towards the
wellbeing of these families is truly exemplary, and it
is our hope that more corporations follow in their footsteps to do their bit
for the less fortunate and to build a lasting and genuine relationship with
these children who require the care they deserve,” added Ms. Kogilavani.
Aside from the urban poor at Pangsapuri Enggan, funds raised were also
channelled to the
needs of more than 100 children from homes such as Shelter
Home for Children and the Children’s Protection Society Penang.
Commenting on the 2014 TNT Charity Hunt, Ms. Ngoh said, “We are delighted
that we are able to end our year on a high note with 2014 TNT Charity Hunt – more
than we hoped for as we received the help of over 200 Malaysians to make this
possible, each dedicating their time, resource and effort all in the name of
charity, with the aim of opening a wealth of opportunities for the future
leaders of tomorrow.”
At the hunt itself, judges were given a surprise as two teams; The
Keybladers (Winner of the Novice Category) and 2 Sneakies + 2 Innocents (Winner
of the Regular Category), both scored 90 points; a perfect score, taking home a
RM2,000 cash prize while Team GEGE (TNT Category), came up top with a score of
58 points, walking away with RM1,000.
Enthusiastic participants were seen flooding the grounds of Dewan Sivik
MBPJ as early as 6.30am, spending over five challenging hours decoding clues
and manoeuvring around various locations before finally checking in at the
finish line at Brem Mall, Kepong in Kuala Lumpur.
To date, TNT Malaysia has connected with hundreds of families, clocking
in more than 20,000 hours of CSR efforts since its inception in 2012.
Joining forces with TNT for a good cause were the following partners:
Nikon Malaysia, Brem Mall, Kenny Rogers ROASTERS, HiShop and Perfect Fit.
