Arab teenage girl tricked into marrying a man in his 90s

A teenage girl made a police report against her father after he tricked her into getting married to a very old man.

The 17-year-old girl from Medina, Saudi Arabia had in the beginning agreed to her father’s decision for an arranged marriage to a man who her father had introduced her to. Her father told the girl that a handsome man in his 20s wanted to marry her, and brought said young man around to the house so that the pair could meet. She happily accepted the proposal

However, chancing on her wedding contract, she looked and was shocked to discover that her new potential spouse was a totally different man, who is in his 90s.

Local tradition dictates that the bride's parents can sign the marriage contract in her name, so the teenager was unable to simply refuse. She was forced to flee from her home and call the police  to plead for assistance from being sent to her bridegroom to be.

The case was taken to court yesterday and thankfully, the marriage has now been declared null and void. Her father, however, faces no punishment or legal action for his actions.
